𝗞𝗹𝗮𝘂𝗱𝗶𝗮 𝗦𝗰𝗵𝗹𝗮𝗰𝗵𝘁𝗼𝘃á - 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗣𝗶𝗹𝘀𝗲𝗻 𝘁𝗲𝗮𝗺 𝗹𝗲𝗮𝗱𝗲𝗿 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗛𝗲𝗮𝗱 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗣𝗶𝗹𝘀𝗲𝗻 𝗔𝗹𝗹𝗦𝗼𝗻𝗼 𝗯𝗿𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗵. It has already been a year since Klaudia contacted us and told us about her wish to establish an AllSono branch in Pilsen to make the courses available for med students at the Faculty of Medicine in Pilsen. When we met, we knew she was the right person full of enthusiasm and positive energy who could do it and we were right! It’s amazing having someone like Klaudia in our team and I’m happy we became not just colleagues but friends as well! 𝗧𝗵𝗮𝗻𝗸 𝘆𝗼𝘂, 𝗞𝗹𝗮𝘂𝗱𝗶𝗮! 💜

“Hi, my name is Klaudia and I'm a 6th year medical student from Pilsen.
As my interest in ultrasound was gradually growing, I realized how crucial the ultrasound is and not just for radiologists but for all of the medical specialties. But regardless of its importance, we don't have many chances to practice it during our studies on the medical school.
From the very first moment I found out about AllSono I knew I wanted to be a part of it and I also wanted to make the AllSono courses available for students in Pilsen. Unfortunately the pandemic made the process a lot harder, but I am happy we finally managed to start teaching!
In my free time I like to bake, learn languages and paint.
I am looking forward to meeting you all!”

𝗗𝗼𝗺𝗶𝗻𝗶𝗸𝗮 Čí𝗿𝘁𝗸𝗼𝘃á - one of our senior lecturers and an amazing medical student with many extracurricular activities! Dominika is a great teacher full of 𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗵𝘂𝘀𝗶𝗮𝘀𝗺 and 𝘄𝗲 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝗵𝗮𝗽𝗽𝘆 𝗵𝗮𝘃𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗵𝗲𝗿 𝗶𝗻 𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗣𝗿𝗮𝗴𝘂𝗲 𝘁𝗲𝗮𝗺. ❤️

“Hi, my name is Dominika and I’m a 6th-year medical student. I joined the AllSono team because I really enjoy teaching other students, especially practical skills like ultrasound examination or first aid. Additionally, I have a lot of fun comparing the anatomy of our individual bodies.
Ultrasound is a great skill that doctors can use at work frequently regardless of their specialization. For instance in pediatrics, which is my primary interest, you can use it for screening the kidney of newborns or in many other situations.
I’m looking forward to meeting you all in class! 🙂”

THYROID GLAND

As with all glands, the thyroid gland has a 𝗵𝗼𝗺𝗼𝗴𝗲𝗻𝗼𝘂𝘀 𝗺𝗶𝗱-𝗴𝗿𝗮𝘆 𝘁𝗲𝘅𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲. In the transverse plane, the two lobes fill much of the image, measuring 𝟰-𝟳 𝗰𝗺 each (Fig. 2-3). The isthmus can be seen joining the lobes. Along the midline, the anterior surfaces of the 𝘁𝗿𝗮𝗰𝗵𝗲𝗮𝗹 𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴𝘀 appear as 𝗵𝘆𝗽𝗲𝗿𝗲𝗰𝗵𝗼𝗶𝗰 arcs, whereas the 𝗹𝘂𝗺𝗲𝗻 is 𝗮𝗻𝗲𝗰𝗵𝗼𝗶𝗰.
In the sagittal plane, the 𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗵𝗺𝘂𝘀 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝘆𝗿𝗼𝗶𝗱 𝗴𝗹𝗮𝗻𝗱 can be inspected (Fig. 4-5). Deep to the isthmus, the 𝗰𝗮𝗿𝘁𝗶𝗹𝗮𝗴𝗶𝗻𝗼𝘂𝘀 𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴𝘀 of the trachea will be in view. Immediately below the rings, a 𝗵𝘆𝗽𝗲𝗿𝗲𝗰𝗵𝗼𝗶𝗰 𝘄𝗮𝘃𝘆 𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗲will be visible on the anterior wall of the trachea. This line is formed by the 𝗮𝗶𝗿-𝗺𝘂𝗰𝗼𝘀𝗮𝗹 𝗶𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗳𝗮𝗰𝗲. Deep to that interface, a 𝗿𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗿𝗯𝗲𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗮𝗿𝘁𝗶𝗳𝗮𝗰𝘁 can be observed within the trachea.

Ultrasound is the best imaging modality to study the thyroid gland for both 𝗱𝗶𝗳𝗳𝘂𝘀𝗲 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗻𝗼𝗱𝘂𝗹𝗮𝗿 𝗱𝗶𝘀𝗲𝗮𝘀𝗲. It is indicated as a first-line imaging modality in patients with palpable nodules or suspicion of malignancy.
Nodules can be hyperechoic, hypo echoic or even isoechoic.

𝗙𝗲𝗮𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲𝘀 𝗳𝗮𝘃𝗼𝘂𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗮 𝗯𝗲𝗻𝗶𝗴𝗻 𝗻𝗼𝗱𝘂𝗹𝗲 𝗶𝗻𝗰𝗹𝘂𝗱𝗲:
- large 𝗰𝘆𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗰 component
- 𝗵𝘆𝗽𝗲𝗿𝗲𝗰𝗵𝗼𝗶𝗰 𝘀𝗼𝗹𝗶𝗱
- comet tail artefact
- 𝘀𝗽𝗼𝗻𝗴𝗶𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗺 appearance

𝗙𝗲𝗮𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲𝘀 𝗳𝗮𝘃𝗼𝘂𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗮 𝗺𝗮𝗹𝗶𝗴𝗻𝗮𝗻𝘁 𝗻𝗼𝗱𝘂𝗹𝗲 𝗶𝗻𝗰𝗹𝘂𝗱𝗲:
- 𝗵𝘆𝗽𝗼𝗲𝗰𝗵𝗼𝗶𝗰 solid
- presence of 𝗺𝗶𝗰𝗿𝗼𝗰𝗮𝗹𝗰𝗶𝗳𝗶𝗰𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀
- local invasion
- taller than it is wide
- suspicious neck lymph nodes suggesting metastatic disease
- 𝗶𝗻𝘁𝗿𝗮𝗻𝗼𝗱𝘂𝗹𝗮𝗿 𝗯𝗹𝗼𝗼𝗱 𝗳𝗹𝗼𝘄

However, the majority of thyroid nodules are benign and approximately 80% of nodular thyroid disease is caused by hyperplasia. Thyroid cancer is rare and accounts for less than 1% of all malignant neoplasms.
