Happy 20th Birthday to my beautiful daughter !
I love you more than you will ever know, and I am so proud of the young woman you are becoming. Smart. Confident. Creative. Talented. Comfortable in your own skin. A great listener, a great sister, a great friend, and an incredible daughter. Your spirit is caring, your heart is loving, and your mind is sharp. Watching you grow into who you are has been one of the greatest gifts of my life. I hope today is as beautiful as you are. Enjoy every moment — you deserve it all.

You were one of the first coaches to unofficially start recruiting me in the 9th grade, and I never forgot that. That early recognition from you and your staff was the primary catalyst behind my decision to commit to USC.
Once I arrived, your staff always told me that you had an affinity for me, and you showed it. Even though I did not finish my career at USC, the experience provided life lessons that stayed with me.
In one of our team meetings,I will never forget you ripping up a newspaper and then putting it back together. I’m still trying to figure out how you did it. Or the time a storm was about to roll in during practice and you essentially yelled at God, and the clouds literally parted around the field. Anyone who was there can attest to that moment.
I also remember when I would score during practice and you would pick me up in the end zone and drive me back to the huddle while smoking your pipe in your infamous golf cart. We could literally smell when you were entering the football field. So many memories in such a short time.

42 came fast…. I’m blessed though. A loving family, great friends, good health, shhiiddddd. We good. Peace and love is all I want.
How women can leverage their animus in the workplace.

Leadership is not volume. Leadership is space.
You already have authority.
You do not need airtime to prove it.
People do not feel valued because you talk more.
People feel valued when you listen well.
If you want, I can also tailor this to your exact audience (government leadership / insider threat / organizational leadership) and add one tight example so it feels even more grounded and personal without naming your workplace.
They know the job. They get things done. Everyone likes working with them.
And you’re sitting there like… how are they still at the same level?
Here’s one reason nobody wants to say out loud:
Sometimes leaders don’t promote their best people… because they don’t want to lose them.
It’s a selfish trade:
“I need you right here because you make my life easier.”
But real leaders don’t hoard talent.
They build talent.
So if you’re a leader:
Your job is to develop people so well they can outgrow your team.
And if you’re the rock star:
Don’t just work hard—get a sponsor, get clarity on the requirements, and have the promotion conversation out loud.
Charismatic leaders who get things done can crush the egos of leaders who lack the juice. Personal and political savvy are critical for navigating fragility in the ranks.

Daughters are different!

When you have daughters, life feels a little different. It is almost as if the world knows you need a daughter to soften you. When I see and hear Ary, I hear a smaller version of myself. I often find myself smiling at how she interprets the world around her. She is an artist, a fashionista, intelligent, caring, kindhearted, and nurturing—just like her mother. I only pray the world treats her with the same care. If not, I may be facing twenty to life. I love you more than words can express, Ary. Happy 6th birthday 💕 Love always,
