Our member Lukáš Sukeník got his research published in ACS Nano. Congratulations!
Cargo Release from Nonenveloped Viruses and Virus-like Nanoparticles: Capsid Rupture or Pore Formation Virus-like nanoparticles are protein shells similar to wild-type viruses, and both aim to deliver their content into a cell. Unfortunately, the release mechanism of their cargo/genome remains elusive. Pores on the symmetry axes were proposed to enable the slow release of the viral genome. In contras...

Robert explained our work for Český rozhlas.
Odolnost bakterií vůči antibiotikům už nemusí být problém. Novou zbraň vyvíjí brněnští vědci Bakterie si vždycky vytvořily odolnost vůči lékům, které lékaři a biochemici proti nim objevili. Těm už v poslední době začaly docházet nápady, čím ještě by se daly bakterie potlačovat. O průlom se teď pokusí brněnští vědci, kteří zahajují výzkum peptidů. Zdá se, ž...

We have a brand new article out.
Selecting Collective Variables and Free-Energy Methods for Peptide Translocation across Membranes The selective permeability of cellular membranes is a crucial property for controlled transport into and out of cells. Molecules that can bypass the cellular machinery and spontaneously translocate across membranes could be used as therapeutics or drug carriers. Peptides are a prominent class of suc...

💻 Let me introduce a colleague 🔬
MICHAEL OWEN
from Robert Vacha Lab!
RESEARCH I According to research by Canadian scientist Michael Owen from C E I T E C Masaryk University, what we eat can have an effect, especially in relation to Alzheimer´s disease.
Michael is involved in computational chemistry, in which he is studying the structure of proteins in detail and looking for factors that lead to Alzheimer's disease in humans.
“We study lipids that one can obtain from food. However, it is certainly not that straightforward. It all depends on how our body processes food and regulates its activity. There are still a number of unknown factors that affect the food we eat and how our diet in turn affects the structure of a particular protein in the brain,” he says.
Michael has lived in Europe for many years, and in his free time, he enjoys cycling and exploring the beauty of South Moravia.

What We Eat Can Have an Effect, Even on Alzheimer´s Disease Michael Owen comes from Toronto, Canada, but has lived in Europe for about eight years. He spent the last two and a half years in Brno, more specifically at CEITEC Masaryk University, where he is engaged in research of Alzheimer's disease. He is investigating why the essentially harmless amyloid…
