Rally Space is hosting the artist Olya Zarapina’s exhibition at the end of her residency at Kimonos Art Center.

Olya’s artistic approach is best described as expanded photography and is influenced by studies of urbanism, architecture, creative geography, and experimental cinema. Through this interdisciplinarity her photo-filmic installations examine the relationships between people and their living environments and what influences our concept of home, of belonging to one place over another.

Olya Zarapina’s shots about her chosen abandoned building during her residency.

“After scouting out some other potential abandoned candidates, I’ve decided to make this beast my hero. I love the brutalist shapes, it was close to and, most importantly, it was open and easily accessible. Or so I thought.
Since I got the Paphos, I’ve walked through this building a couple of times and was almost finished shooting my second roll, when a crazy aggressive neighbour, claiming to be the owner, locked me inside, and would not allow me to leave until the police got involved.
I guess, all my years of passing and trespassing through all kinds of abandoned spaces finally caught up to me!”
Her show: QCHH+VVG (Πάφος) 2025, will be showcased on the 7th of March at .space , come by!

Artist Talk with Anton Kushaev

Born in 1983 in Moscow, now based on Cyprus. Graduated from the Moscow Art School of Applied Arts and the Icon Painting School at the Moscow Theological Academy, and studied at the Baza Institute (Moscow).
Solo exhibitions were held in Voskhod gallery (Basel), Artwin gallery (Moscow), Szena gallery (Moscow), Triumph gallery (Moscow) and CCA Winzavod (Moscow).

What do mountains mean to you?

Kim is occupied with questions about nature, love, existence and all the connections between them.
She thinks that it’s important that we ask ourselves those fundamental questions in order to become more aware of our life, to go deeper into our own psyche, sense of self and the meaning that we give to things, situations and feelings.

After going through an intense transformative time in the past few years that brought many insights, Kim is now exploring ways to express those newfound ideas and connections during her residency at Kimonos Art Center.
