🎬☀️ This Summer Begins with a Story from the Sea ☀️🎬

Today Monday, June 1st, as summer begins, The Cyprus Bycatch Project documentary is finally publicly available for everyone to watch. 🌊💙

After an incredible journey through screenings, festivals, awards, and conversations across the world, we’re proud to finally share our documentary publicly with all of you.

This project began with a simple but urgent goal: to raise awareness about bycatch in Cyprus — the accidental capture of marine species such as sea turtles, dolphins, sharks, rays, and seabirds in fishing gear. A problem that affects not only marine biodiversity, but also the future sustainability of local fishing communities.

The project was coordinated by BirdLife International, BirdLife Cyprus, Enalia Physis Environmental Research Centre, the Society for the Protection of Turtles, and the University of Exeter, bringing together science, conservation, and storytelling to highlight this critical environmental issue.

Over the past months, our film traveled far beyond Cyprus and was recognized internationally with awards, finalist positions, and official selections at environmental and film festivals around the world. We are deeply grateful to every festival, jury member, audience member, and person who attended a screening, supported the film, shared it, and believed in its message. 💙

🏆 Highlights from our journey include:
• Best Documentary Award at MED-LIMES, Ai Confini del Mediterraneo
• Award Winner at Better Earth International Film Festival 2024
• Silver Award at International Tourism Film Festival Africa
• Finalist at Aravali International Film Festival
• Finalist at 16th International Kuala Lumpur Eco Film Fest 2024
• Quarter-Finalist at Neum Underwater Film Festival
…along with many official selections and nominations across Europe, Africa, Asia, and the Americas.
