Curaveda is an initiative committed to the sustainable development of an integrated vision and practice of Preventive and Natural Health Care in Curacao.
At Curaveda we believe that health is both an ingredient and a result of sustainable development:
- Poor Health: poor participation in society, low productivity, low self-esteem, higher demands on health systems;
- Good Health: active, more productive and creative population, lower demands on health systems;
- A person's life (body and mind) is a magnificent creation; an amazing and fascinating s
ystem that already has everything it needs to keep itself working perfectly;
- Health, nonetheless, is dependent of the health systems and other sectors, such as industry, education, food etc.;
- Prevention is always more cost effective;
- Health is to be defined as well being, and living well. Well being, as an outcome of sustainable development, exists when all people, at all times, have physical and economic access to health care, sufficient, safe and nutritional food and decent forms of employment and housing, as well as access to some form of nature to enable them to be active and healthy citizens. While conventional medicine has been there for many decades and has its own advantages, there are many instances where it falls short or fails to address the problem successfully. However, there are various alternative medical and healing systems like Ayurveda, Yoga, Naturopathy, Homeopathy, Acupuncture etc., built on top of solid foundations and logic, and having proven results for many decades. In this case, Curaveda ("Cura" that stands for "Healing", but also "Curacao", and "Veda" that stands for "Knowledge") aims to bring knowledge and reliable information about Ayurveda to the community of Curacao in order for people to make informed health care decisions. Ayurveda, the sacred knowledge (Veda) of life (Ayur), is the oldest medical system in the world, dating back more than 5.000 years ago. It is believed to have provided the foundation for all other alternative disciplines thereafter. Ayurveda first of all emphasizes on the prevention of disease and deterioration of the body through precise and precautionary measures. Secondly, Ayurveda aims at treating and curing the body of its already existing ailments.
