✨ We are growing – Djunta Mon is coming to São Nicolau! ✨

With great joy and pride, we are excited to announce the opening of Centro Comunitário Casulo – Djunta Mon in Tarrafal, São Nicolau, starting in the school year 2026/2027.

Casulo is an extension of our centre in Mindelo – built on the same proven concept of structured academic support, safe learning spaces, and holistic child development, adapted to the reality of São Nicolau.

💛 Why “Casulo”?
Casulo means cocoon – a safe place of growth and transformation. Just like a butterfly develops inside a cocoon, children and adolescents will receive the support and tools they need to grow, gain confidence, and succeed.

The centre will be led by two powerful women, Kelly Gomes and Melissa Rodrigues, who bring dedication, leadership, and strong community roots to this new chapter.

A heartfelt thank you to our greatest supporter, Foundation for Education Switzerland for the trust and belief in our work, and to our local partners on São Nicolau.

Em dezembro, foram realizadas atividades de Natal com crianças em São Nicolau e em Santo Antão (Concelho do Paul), promovendo momentos de partilha, alegria e proximidade com a comunidade.

As iniciativas contaram com o apoio do Centro Comunitário Djunta Mon e reforçam o compromisso com a educação comunitária e a inclusão social. Mais do que celebrar o Natal, estes momentos representaram o início de novos caminhos, o fortalecimento de parcerias locais e a construção de bases sólidas para futuras ações educativas🤝

🌧️ Storm Erin Aid – Campaign Update
🏠 Home Renovation in Alto Bomba, Monte Sossego

Storm Erin has damaged many houses across São Vicente.
Through our local network, we are able to identify families and homes that need urgent help.

One of them was a private house in Alto Bomba, Monte Sossego, where the kitchen area was severely affected by the storm.
Thanks to your support, we were able to:

🔧 repair the damaged kitchen structure
🧱 improve safety and functionality
✨ restore a clean and usable space for the family

This renovation is small in scale, but it has a huge impact for the people who live there. To have a safe kitchen means to have a safe home 🙏

Storm-aid Campaign Update – Phase 2
🏫 School Renovation in Penede Janela, Paul Valley (Santo Antão)

As part of our ongoing Phase 2 support, we completed important renovation work at the school in Penede Janela, located in the Paul Valley on Santo Antão.

Thanks to the generosity of all our donators, we were able to:
🔧 fix the damaged windows
🧱 repair small cracks on the walls
🎨 repaint the classrooms and refresh the learning environment

In addition to the renovation, we also delivered school materials to the local Ministry of Education, who will distribute them to the educational institutions in greatest need across the region.

This support helps ensure that children in the valley have safe classrooms and the materials they need to learn with dignity.

No passado final de samana (28 e 29 de novembro o CCDM em parceria com a Abraço - Alto da Gloria, Praia, realizou um workshop de partilha de boas práticas no âmbito das ações levadas a cabo pelo CCDM, no pós Tempestade ERIN 2025.
Este workshop serviu para dar a conhecer as enumeras interveções feitas pelo centro de Mindelo, a fim de poder projetar e mitigar os impactos numa situação emergencial/crise.
As aprendizagem devem sempre ser partilhadas.

🌧️ Tropical Storm Erin 2025 – Phase 2 Successfully Completed

After the heavy rainfall on August 11, the Djunta Mon Community Center supported over 40 families and more than 300 people, directly and indirectly, across São Vicente and Santo Antão through educational assistance, home repairs, and essential community support.

🎒 Educational & Family Support
A total of 33 families with 53 children and teenagers received vouchers for school supplies and books, tailored to each grade level (1st–12th year).
In addition, schoolbags and uniforms were provided — thanks to our partner Papelaria INAK, which offered a 10% discount on all products (excluding books).

Beyond educational assistance, 11 additional families received direct material support, including mattresses, kitchen utensils, an iron gate, a small handcart, and essential home repairs and renovations.
These families live in neighborhoods across São Vicente — including Ribeira Bote, Madeiralzinho, Monte Sossego, Chã de Alecrim, and Mindelo — as well as in the Paul Valley on Santo Antão.

A total of 12 institutions benefited from renovations, school materials, and equipment, improving learning environments and community access to resources.

🌧️ Tempestade Tropical Erin 2025 – Fase 2 Concluída com Sucesso

Após as fortes chuvas de 11 de agosto, o Centro Comunitário Djunta Mon apoiou mais de 40 famílias e mais de 300 pessoas, direta e indiretamente, nas ilhas de São Vicente e Santo Antão, através de apoio educativo, reparações habitacionais e assistência comunitária essencial.

🎒 Apoio Educativo e Familiar
Um total de 33 famílias, com 53 crianças e adolescentes, recebeu vales para material escolar e livros, adaptados a cada nível de ensino (do 1.º ao 12.º ano).
Além disso, foram entregues mochilas e uniformes escolares — graças à nossa parceira Papelaria INAK, que ofereceu um desconto de 10% em todos os produtos (exceto livros).

Para além do apoio educativo, 11 famílias adicionais receberam ajuda material direta, incluindo colchões, utensílios de cozinha, um portão de ferro, um pequeno carrinho de mão e reparações ou renovações essenciais nas casas.
Essas famílias vivem em diferentes bairros de São Vicente — incluindo Ribeira Bote, Madeiralzinho, Monte Sossego, Chã de Alecrim e Mindelo — bem como no Vale do Paul, em Santo Antão.

Um total de 12 instituições beneficiou de obras de renovação, materiais escolares e equipamentos, melhorando os ambientes de aprendizagem e o acesso da comunidade a recursos essenciais.

Nach den starken Regenfällen am 11. August unterstützte das Djunta Mon Community Center über 40 Familien und mehr als 300 Menschen – direkt und indirekt – auf den Inseln São Vicente und Santo Antão durch Bildungsförderung, Hausreparaturen und wichtige Gemeinschaftshilfe.

🎒 Bildungs- & Familienhilfe
Insgesamt 33 Familien mit 53 Kindern und Jugendlichen erhielten Gutscheine für Schulmaterial und Bücher, abgestimmt auf die jeweilige Klassenstufe (1.–12. Schuljahr).
Zusätzlich wurden Schulrucksäcke und Uniformen verteilt – dank unserer Partnerin Papelaria INAK, die einen 10 % Rabatt auf alle Produkte gewährte (ausgenommen Bücher).

Neben der Bildungsförderung erhielten 11 weitere Familien direkte materielle Unterstützung, darunter Matratzen, Küchenutensilien, ein Eisengitter, ein kleiner Handkarren sowie wichtige Hausreparaturen und Renovierungen.
Diese Familien leben in verschiedenen Stadtteilen von São Vicente – darunter Ribeira Bote, Madeiralzinho, Monte Sossego, Chã de Alecrim und Mindelo – sowie im Paúl-Tal auf Santo Antão.

🏫 Institutionelle Unterstützung
Insgesamt 12 Einrichtungen profitierten von Renovierungen, Schulmaterial und Ausstattung, wodurch Lernumgebungen verbessert und der Zugang zu wichtigen Gemeinschaftsressourcen erleichtert wurde.
