What is the difference between
global, selective and detailed comprehension?

This question is especially important when you are preparing yourself for an exam.

If you know the difference, you will understand the tasks in the exam better and you will get the chance to prepare yourself in the right way.

Here we go:

GLOBAL text comprehension

You should understand the text globally.

Techniques in the exam:
-read the text as quickly as possible
-don't pay attention to details
-make sure to understand globaly what the text is about
-context is important

Task form
-Zuordnung (for example: associate short texts with titles)

SELECTIVE text comprehension

Details are important. You should 'scan' the text in order to find a specific detail. The task contains that detail and you should just say if it is so in the text or not.

Techniques in the exam:
- underline the detail in the task
- try to locate it in the text

Task form:
- yes/no questions
- correct/false

DETAILED text comprehension

Again: details are important. However, this time the task doesn't contain it = the task is being asked 'generally' and you should answer with a detail.

Techniques in the exam:

- underline the keywords in the a-b-c answers and check if it is so in the text.

Task form:
- choose a-b-c

You're welcome :)

Let me know if you had a problem understanding the difference between these 3 sorts of text comprehension that are being tested in exams. Good luck!

Save this post for later and share it with friends!

YOU SHOULD BE MAKING MISTAKES. Here is why 👇

Robert Kiyosaki: “In the real world, the smartest people are people who make mistakes and learn. In school, the smartest people don't make mistakes.”⠀

R.K. brings the willing to try something new and taking risks in connection with making mistakes and mproving yourself.

R.K. is an entrepreneur and we are learning foreign languages. What can we learn from him?⠀

Well: keep making f***ing mistakes!⠀

Try it, take a risk and build that sentence! Use that new word or that new grammar rule that you have just learned! DO something, just don't sit quietly because you are afraid of making mistakes! ⠀

And: NEVER-EVER apologise for making mistakes! It means that you are trying and that you'll improve yourself, just keep going!⠀
My students know that I don't like correcting them. I HAVE to do it, but I am NOT ENJOYING it. I prefer writing down mistakes and then talking about the most relevant ones at the end of my student's talk, conversation, presentation etc. Then we talk about their biggest mistakes and not about all of them. And I always first praise because I really think that it's important.⠀

I want you to know that I'm proud of you, of all the effort that you are putting in. Just keep up the good job!⠀

You know that the best results achieve the 'charming' people who are not afraid of speaking to native speakers. And their biggest advantige is that they're not afraid of making mistakes.⠀

Are you afraid of making mistakes? Does it paralize you?⠀

p.s. my Insta-channel contains mistakes too. Please don't write me private messages correcting my English. Usually haters do that and... I love making mistakes 😊

GUTEN MORGEN!⠀

How do we say "this morning" and "tomorrow morning" in German?⠀

When you are talking about your every day activities (past-future), you might need this.⠀

From the experience with my students, I can say that this is a standard question 😊

Here is my suggestion:⠀
this morning = heute früh⠀
tomorrow morning = morgen früh⠀

There are some other possibilities to say 'this morning', like: 'heute Morgen', 'an diesem Morgen', but 'heute früh' seems to be the simplest of them all, especially if you remember it together with 'morgen früh'.

This way you can also avoid the confusion around the writing of the word 'morgen' (with or without the capital letter) 🤔

What do you think about this?

Examples:
Heute früh bin ich zur Post gegangen.
Morgen früh muss ich zum Arzt gehen.

TRICK OR JUST A GOOD EXPLNATION?

Question: when we have the combination
subordinated sentence + main sentence, why does the main sentence starts with a verb?

Let me explain it to you on the example of a temporal sentence.

The information about the time can be:⠀

- 1 word: morgen⠀
- 2 words: am Samstag⠀
- 3 words: in zwei Tagen⠀
- the whole sentence: wenn ich mit der Arbeit fertig bin⠀

When the info about the time takes the 1. place in the sentence, then the verb needs to take the 2. place, correct?⠀

Here is what it looks like:⠀

1 word: morgen komme ich zu dir.⠀
2 words: am Samstag komme ich zu dir⠀
3 words: in zwei Tagen komme ich zu dir.⠀
the whole sentence: wenn ich mit der Arbeit fertig bin, komme ich zu dir.⠀

As you can see, if we start with the subordinated sentence (in this case tempotal sentence), it practically takes the 1. place in the main sentence and that's why the verb in the main sentence takes the usual 2. place. It only looks like the main sentence "starts" with the verb 😋

What fo you think about this explanation? Do you like it?

📌Starke Menschen.

📌 Was liest du momentan und was sind deine Lieblingsthemen?

SHAKE IT - BUT DON'T MIX IT UP! 😊

benutzen = to use something for its purpose⠀

for example: man benutzt einen Flaschenöffner, um Flaschen zu öffnen; einen Fön, um Haare zu trocknen; eine Schere, um etwas zu schneiden; eine Seife, um sich Hände zu waschen⠀

nutzen = to take advantage of something⠀

for example: man kann eine Chance, eine Gelegenheit, ein Vorteil, ein Angebot nutzen

Alles klar?⠀
Did you know the difference?⠀

NEVER MAKE THIS TYPICAL MISTAKE AGAIN! 👩‍🎓

Wie geht's?

🚫 Ich bin gut. Und du?

This is the most typical mistake at the A2 level... and beyond 😊

I have an ultimate solution for this. 💡

We both know that you keep forgetting that the correct answer would be:

✔Mir geht's gut und dir/Ihnen?

Instead of that you could say just:

🔝Gut (danke) und selbst?

Learn this by heart and never worry about this again!! 👌

COOK LIKE A PRO⠀
✔ underline all new words in the text⠀

✔ ask yourself what are the relevant words and make a selection⠀

✔ choose only 8 new words⠀

✔ make sure that you pronounce them correctly (check out the pronounciation in online dictionaries)⠀

✔ find the meaning of each word in a dictionary⠀

✔ stay focused only on 1 meaning of the word⠀

✔ find morphological characterisrics for that word (gender and plural form for nouns, for verbs: regular or irregular verb? haben or sein in Perfekt? separable-unseparable prefix? any prepositions?)⠀

✔ "exemine" that new word in order to see if you can relate it to anything that you know from before: devide it in parts; ask yourself: does it look/sound like anything else that you alredy know; can you imagine a picture in your mind that would contain the new word and its associations? Great!⠀

✔ sentence mining: find example sentences for that 1 meaning (in the initial text, online: Reverso, Linguee, online dictionaries, Twitter advanced search)⠀

✔ again pictures and emotions: write down only example sentences that evoke emotions and pictures in your mind.

✔ repeat new words in intervals: 1 day after you first learned them, and then again in 7 and in 21 days.⠀

✔ if you want to keep your new words always with you so that you can take a look at them at any time (while waiting in a traffic jam or smt. similar), install the Quizlet application on your phone.⠀

✔ if you want your new words and phrases to pop up on the screen of your phone every time when you access other apps, then connect your Quizlet list with the Semper app.⠀

✔ after 6 weeks, sit down and rewrite all new words from the list⠀

✔ of course, when you feel ready, try to build your own sentences with that new word. Remember: only after you use the new word 10 times in your own sentences, you can say that you KNOW that word = that you have really aquired it⠀

🏁 native speakers use 2000-3000 words every day. It means that by learning 5-8 words daily you could reach that goal in 1 year.

German can be easy (2)
Take a look at these nouns! The way how we build them in German is pretty easy, isn't it? Let's see what the nouns with the same meaning look like in English:
- Flugzeug = airoplane
- Fahrzeug = vehicle
- Werkzeug = tools
- Spielzeug = toys
WOW, 4 completely different nouns in English!
So this time, the result is: German:English = 1:0 😊
