📢 We are thrilled to announce that a research article from the EnviroChar:

“Comparative Study of Biochar from Different Biomass Feedstocks: Toward Sustainable Resource Utilization and Environmental Applications”

has just been published in Molecules MDPI, Volume 31, Issue 1 (2026). 📜

🌱 In this study, the structural, chemical, and thermal properties of biochars from slow pyrolysis of hardwood, corn cob, and wheat straw at 400 °C and 700 °C was examined. Moreover, their potential in environmental and industrial applications was also evaluated.

🌱 Dr. Jasmina Anojčić, associate professor and member of the EnviroChar project team, successfully attended the MiMoSenSa project Conference in Belgrade, Serbia.

✨ The conference brought together leading experts and innovators, creating a great platform for knowledge exchange, collaboration, and discussion of sustainable solutions and cutting-edge research. We were proud to share the EnviroChar vision and engage with the scientific community working toward a more sustainable future.

📢 We are thrilled to announce that a research article from the EnviroChar project has been published in the journal Molecules. 📜

The title of the published articles is "Sustainable Activation of Persulfate Using Corn Cob Biochar for Pesticide Degradation in Wastewater Treatment".

🌱💧This article investigates the use of corn cob–derived biochar, especially high-temperature biochar, as an effective heterogeneous catalyst for persulfate-based advanced oxidation processes to degrade the organochlorine pesticides lindane and β-endosulfan in water.

🟢 EnviroChar project members participated at the SafeLi conference on October 31, 2025, in Novi Sad, Serbia. Our colleague Dr. Tijana Marjanović Srebro, research assistant, has presented the EnviroChar project and the achieved results under the title: “pH-dependent degradation of triazine herbicides by biochar-persulfate systems”.

👉 The SafeLi Conference was designed to bring together experts, researchers, and professionals to exchange ideas, foster collaboration, and drive innovation in the scientific community.

🌿 EnviroChar at the Ecology Fair! 🌱

We were excited to showcase the EnviroChar project at the Ecology Fair in Big Fashion shopping center in Novi Sad (25-26. 11. 2025), where our principal investigator, associate professor Dr. Jelena Beljin, presented our mission to develop sustainable solutions in environmental chemistry.

Visitors had the opportunity to explore how biochar can transform waste into a valuable resource, contributing to a cleaner and healthier environment.

We would like to extend our sincere thanks to Dr. Sanja Mutić, research associate, for her valuable contributions and successful collaboration throughout the project. Her work has been instrumental in advancing our research goals.

At the same time, we are excited to welcome our new colleague, Dr. Szabolcs Bognár.

Dr. Szabolcs Bognár has been employed at University of Novi Sad Faculty of Sciences, Department of Chemistry, Biochemistry and Environmental Protection since 2019, and currently holds the position of research associate. He has participated in two national research projects and is currently involved in two bilateral projects, as well as one ongoing national project. To date, he has published 23 scientific papers, 4 book chapters, and more than 30 conference papers. His main research interests include analytical chemistry and instrumental analysis, environmental chemistry, removal of pesticides and active pharmaceutical ingredients from water by heterogeneous photocatalysis and other advanced oxidation processes, green synthesis of nanomaterials, and kinetic methods of analysis. 

We are thrilled to have him on board and look forward to the expertise and energy he brings to the EnviroChar team!
