Limbe-based cake artist Chef Nora Mbincho recreated the iconic Alfred Saker Monument entirely in cake, producing the largest and arguably most culturally significant piece displayed at the event.

For the people of Limbe, the monument is more than just a statue. It commemorates Alfred Saker, the British missionary who founded the settlement originally known as Victoria in 1858. Saker worked with freed slaves from Sierra Leone and local communities to establish what would become one of Cameroon’s historic coastal towns. His contributions included not only the founding of the town but also early education, printing, and missionary work that shaped the cultural and social landscape of the region.

By transforming this historic landmark into an edible sculpture, Chef Nora Mbincho demonstrated how baking can transcend culinary craft and enter the realm of cultural storytelling. Every tier, contour, and detail of the cake echoed the structure of the monument itself, reminding spectators that history can be preserved and celebrated in many forms, even through flour, sugar, and creativity.
