EMPOWER LEADERS TO SUPPORT MENTAL HEALTH, FEELING GOOD AND WELL-BEING 🌟

As the executive director of FAPS Development Organisation, I am grateful to have participated in an important training at the Local Youth Corner Cameroon focused on mental health, feeling good, well-being, counselling, self-esteem, and the therapeutic process of healing.

The training aimed at empowering leaders with knowledge and skills to help children feel safe, valued, accepted, and loved, while developing a strong sense of belonging and self-esteem.

We also learned practical approaches to support children and adults who may be suffering from the effects of fixation and unresolved traumatic experiences, particularly those encountered during early childhood. Such experiences can sometimes continue to affect a person's emotions, relationships, behaviour, and overall well-being later in life.

As leaders, counsellors, parents, teachers, and community members, we have an important role to play in creating safe and supportive environments where people can express themselves, heal, grow, and develop confidence in themselves.

The training was facilitated by Kristin Bruce, a Guardian Counsellor and teacher of self-esteem classes from California, USA.

I am truly grateful for this valuable learning opportunity and for the knowledge and skills gained. I believe this training will contribute greatly to my continued commitment to supporting children, young people, adults, and families in our communities.

🧠 Mental health matters.
😊 Feeling good matters.
❤️ Every child deserves to feel safe and valued.
🤝 Everyone deserves a sense of belonging.
🌱 Healing and growth are possible.

Together, let us empower leaders and build communities where children and adults can feel safe, feel good, heal, grow, and thrive.

WAMUFEST & FAPS DEVELOPMENT BACK-TO-SCHOOL SUPPORT PROGRAMME – SOUZA, MUNDANI

On 23 August 2026, WAMUFEST and FAPS Development had the privilege of bringing smiles, hope and educational support to children in Souza, Mundani through our 2026–2027 Back-to-School Support Programme.

More than 50 primary school children received essential educational materials, including school bags, exercise books, pens and other learning materials, to help them prepare for the new academic year.

This initiative is especially important because many Wabane families living in Souza relocated from their communities as a result of the crisis. These families continue to face economic hardship, making it difficult for many parents to provide all the educational materials their children need.

The need is still enormous.

Approximately 300 primary school children were identified as needing educational support, but the resources available could only reach a portion of them. Many children still need school bags, books, pens, pencils and other essential learning materials.

Our commitment remains strong: no child should be made to feel less confident or less deserving of education because of circumstances beyond their control.

We sincerely appreciate Hon. Nembo Pauline, Mr. Moformi Hillary, Wabane elites, members of the Wabane diaspora, community leaders, volunteers, parents and every individual who contributed to making this initiative possible.

Special appreciation also goes to the Chief of Mundani in Souza for welcoming and supporting the initiative.

Together, we can do more.

If you would like to support the next edition of the WAMUFEST & FAPS Development Back-to-School Initiative, your contribution can help put a school bag, books and writing materials into the hands of a child who needs them.

Help a child go back to school with confidence.
Support a child. Support education. Support the future.

We are pleased to share a look back at our recent "Backpacks of Hope" program in the Bomaka neighbourhood of Buea!
This initiative was born from a deep understanding of the challenges facing our community where years of crisis have made it difficult for many families to afford basic school supplies.
Our mission was to lighten their load and empower over 50 vulnerable students with the tools they need for the 2025/2026 school year.

This was so much more than a simple distribution event. Our program was a two-phase journey that began with the careful identification of the most vulnerable children, ensuring our resources reached those who needed them most.

The atmosphere on the day of the event was one of pure excitement ass each child received a backpack filled with essential didactic materials. We also had interactive sessions focused on key topics like:
Education as the key to a brighter future, where they participated in interactive sessions on health and hygiene, self-care, menstrual health, and protection against abuse (SGVB).
These were handled in an age-appropriate and engaging way to ensure the children understood the importance of protecting themselves and caring for their bodies.

The overwhelming turnout highlighted just how critical this support is. We saw firsthand the need for educational programs that go beyond a single day. The positive feedback from parents and students has confirmed that our holistic approach combining material aid with meaningful educational sessions is truly effective.

This success wouldn't have been possible without our incredible team and the collaboration of local community leaders who were instrumental in guiding our efforts.

We are committed to building on this success and continuing our work in the future. We believe that with more partners and supporters, we can expand our reach and make an even bigger impact in the coming years.
Thank you to everyone who supported this initiative! Your contributions are helping to ignite education and restore hope for a brighter tomorrow.

This initiative is a testament to our commitment to promoting education, especially for the most vulnerable in our community. The event wasn't just about distributing materials; it also featured inspiring sessions on important topics such as the importance of education, self-care, and raising awareness about sexual violence.
