INTERNATIONAL DAY OF SIGN LANGUAGES.
Today, Wednesday, 23rd September 2026, Cameroon Sign Language Academy (CAMSILA) joins the global community to celebrate the power, richness, and beauty of sign languages worldwide!
Did you know? Across the globe, over 70 million Deaf people use more than 300 unique sign languages. Today also marks a momentous historic milestone: the 75th Anniversary of the World Federation of the Deaf (WFD)!
OUR CALL TO ACTION & APPEALS
In the spirit of this international celebration, the Cameroon Sign Language Academy issues a strong call to action to all sign language users, practitioners, stakeholders, and the Government of Cameroon:
🔹 Harmonize Our Sign Languages: We urgently need to standardize and harmonize our regional sign languages to establish a unified National Sign Language.
🔹 Build Cohesion: Foster stronger unity, trust, and connection among all sign language users across Cameroon.
🔹 Drive Professionalism: Elevate sign language practice, moving beyond mediocrity toward high professional standards and certified quality.
🔹 Unite for Official Recognition: Join hands and align efforts toward securing official government recognition for Cameroon Sign Language (CSL).
🔹 Strengthen Synergy: Build deeper collaboration, mutual respect, and synergy between the Deaf community and Sign Language practitioners/interpreters.
Together, we can break communication barriers, ensure inclusion, and build a truly accessible society for everyone.

INTERNATIONAL WEEK FOR THE DEAF 2026
This week, we join the global Deaf community in celebrating International Week for the Deaf under the powerful theme:
“DECLARING DEAF PEOPLE’S HUMAN RIGHTS”
At Cameroon Sign Language Academy (CAMSILA), we believe that communication is a fundamental bridge to inclusion, dignity, participation, and equal opportunity.
Throughout the week, we will be engaging communities through exciting activities, including:
🎤 Educative Talks – Raising awareness and promoting understanding of Deaf people’s rights.
⛪🏫 Church & School Visits – Taking sign language, awareness, and inclusion into our communities and learning spaces.
💻 Free Online Sign Language Classes – An opportunity for everyone to learn, communicate, and become part of a more inclusive society. (Those interested should indicate before Friday this week)

Let us move beyond awareness to action. Let us learn sign language, challenge barriers, promote accessibility, and stand together for the rights and dignity of Deaf people.

ℂ𝔼𝕃𝔼𝔹ℝ𝔸𝕋𝕀ℕ𝔾 37 ℕ𝔼𝕎 ℂℍ𝔸𝕄ℙ𝕀𝕆ℕ𝕊 𝕆𝔽 𝕀ℕℂ𝕃𝕌𝕊𝕀𝕆ℕ!
Last Saturday was a truly special day!
We proudly graduated 37 professionals from our 𝕊𝕚𝕘𝕟 𝕃𝕒𝕟𝕘𝕦𝕒𝕘𝕖 𝕒𝕟𝕕 𝔹𝕣𝕒𝕚𝕝𝕝𝕖 ℙ𝕣𝕠𝕗𝕖𝕤𝕤𝕚𝕠𝕟𝕒𝕝 𝕋𝕣𝕒𝕚𝕟𝕚𝕟𝕘 ℙ𝕣𝕠𝕘𝕣𝕒𝕞. This marks our 5th year of running this program, and what an incredible journey it has been for me as Program Manager.
This year's graduation brings us to a major milestone: 318 𝕡𝕣𝕠𝕗𝕖𝕤𝕤𝕚𝕠𝕟𝕒𝕝 𝕥𝕣𝕒𝕚𝕟𝕖𝕕 𝕗𝕠𝕣 𝕥𝕙𝕖 𝕡𝕒𝕤𝕥 5 𝕪𝕖𝕒𝕣𝕤! 318 bridge-builders who are now equipped to close the communication gap between persons with hearing and visual impairments and the general public, making service delivery more accessible, dignified, and inclusive.
My deepest gratitude goes to the entire dedicated team, to all who trusted us, and especially to the Education Department Cameroon Baptist Convention 𝕊𝕦𝕤𝕥𝕒𝕚𝕟𝕒𝕓𝕝𝕖 𝕀𝕟𝕔𝕝𝕦𝕤𝕚𝕧𝕖 𝔼𝕕𝕦𝕔𝕒𝕥𝕚𝕠𝕟 ℙ𝕣𝕠𝕛𝕖𝕔𝕥 ℝ𝕖𝕤𝕠𝕦𝕣𝕔𝕖 ℂ𝕖𝕟𝕥𝕣𝕖 and CBC Health Services - CBCHS for giving me the platform to live this dream. As someone deeply passionate about inclusive education, seeing my community become more inclusive, where every person with a disability can access basic services right at their doorstep - is a dream come true.
𝕎𝕙𝕒𝕥 𝕞𝕒𝕕𝕖 𝕥𝕙𝕚𝕤 𝕪𝕖𝕒𝕣 𝕤𝕡𝕖𝕔𝕚𝕒𝕝?
For the first time, we introduced 𝕃𝕖𝕧𝕖𝕝 2 𝕋𝕣𝕒𝕚𝕟𝕚𝕟𝕘 𝕗𝕠𝕣 𝕓𝕠𝕥𝕙 𝕊𝕚𝕘𝕟 𝕃𝕒𝕟𝕘𝕦𝕒𝕘𝕖 𝕒𝕟𝕕 𝔹𝕣𝕒𝕚𝕝𝕝𝕖 (𝕒𝕟 𝕒𝕕𝕧𝕒𝕟𝕔𝕖 𝕔𝕠𝕦𝕣𝕤𝕖), taking our commitment to quality and professionalism to the next level.
