The "before" version of our house is featured in this book about old wooden houses from the pioneer era of Punta Arenas😍 When you stay here, you're helping us preserve and restore a historical property, one of the first here in our city🥰 It's incredible to think that the original wooden framework of our house and many of its original elements have been able to withstand the passing of all these years and our extreme weather.💨 If you learn about the architecture here, many old houses had wood siding just like ours before they started using sheet metal which was cheaper and lower-maintenance.

"Mi casa es su casa" and interested guests are always welcome inside our house to travel back in time and learn a little bit about our local history and traditions🏡

Last week we met a really lovely American-Swedish couple who stayed at our place. They wanted to know information about Torres del Paine National Park, rental cars, and entrance fees. These details can be difficult to figure out, especially if you don't speak Spanish. We were able to help them get their park passes online, find the very last rental car available, and tell them about hikes with stunning scenery😍 They made it up to the Mirador Base Torres and got to enjoy this view: Thanks for being such friendly guests and we're so glad you got to enjoy this iconic day hike!🤩

Steve and his friends travelled here from southern California🇺🇸 to do lots of hiking in our area.⛰️ They're originally from Iran, and our first Iranese guests!🇮🇷They can speak multiple languages, have travelled to many amazing places, and three of the four are happily retired and enjoying exploring the world.🌎 Meeting them was a great experience: they were easy-going guests determined to have a fun time despite physically demanding and challenging hikes. They were super likeable and outgoing guests, and if they ever want to come back we'd be happy to see them again! Thanks for choosing us, and happy travels🙌🏻

One of the awesome things is meeting inspiring people from all over the world. Yesterday Ali Riza Bilal, a former Olympic athlete from Turkey🇹🇷 returned to Punta Arenas after successfully skiing alone to the South Pole, a 51 day challenge full of obstacles and many hardships he had to overcome❄️ Ali Riza was the first Turkish guest we've had, and he left us with a fantastic impression of his country and its people. This is the cool thing about working in tourism--meeting people from all corners of the world and all walks of life. Thanks Ali Riza for staying at our place and Rodrigo and I wish you a safe and happy return home!🙌🏻🧿

Looking for a neat place to visit in Punta Arenas? On Friday the 17th, the Nao Victoria Museum will have free entry! We highly recommend visiting this beautifully made interactive museum of historical importance! Visit the replica of Magellan's only surviving ship and delve into our fascinating nautical history. You can also explore replicas of Darwin and Fitz Roy's Beagle, and the Goleta Ancud, from when Chile claimed possession of the Strait of Magellan in 1843.

Our guest, Jonny Huntington (UK) made history this week when he became the first disabled person to ski completely alone to the South Pole. Jonny set out to show the world that a disability doesn't define you and to always believe in yourself. After suffering a stroke, Jonny had to learn how to walk all over again which was difficult because he'd always had an active life and prior to this was an Army Officer. After recovering, he represented the UK on their paralympic team and became an elite skiier and endurance athlete as well as sports scientist and motivational speaker.

He spent 45 days pulling a 103 kg sled with all his food and supplies, and every night had to set up his tent. Sometimes the temperature dropped to -40 Celsius, and wind and snow conditions were a constant challenge. Doing this alone shows a huge amout of mental strength as well as adaptability, intelligence, and hard work--Only 52 people have ever gone to the South Pole unsupported and alone, but Jonny is the first who has a physical disability. He showed the world what is possible if you are willing to go outside of your comfort zone and push your limits.

This week we met Juan, a 77 year old retired lawyer, who drove here in his Toyota all the way from Buenos Aires!🇦🇷 He spent four nights here and it was nice talking to him and hearing about his road trips. His kids and grandkids thought he was crazy for wanting to take this trip, but he came on his own anyway since he'd been wanting to take this trip for several years. We're sure he'll never forget his time here in Punta Arenas🇨🇱 Have a safe and enjoyable trip back to Buenos Aires!🙌🏻

One of the best things about our job is getting to meet guests from all over the world. Jack and three of his friends from Malaysia🇲🇾 came here on their South America motorcycle trip while making a technical stop to repair one of their bikes. They were the first guests we've had from Malaysia, and they left us with a really positive opinion of their country. Very respectful, happy, intelligent, and multilingual people. We got to learn a little about their culture which was interesting. Thanks for being friendly guests to host, and we hope you have an amazing trip!
