Mathias Pfund (*1992 Geneva) lives and works between Brussels and Geneva. His artistic practice resorts to various strategies of appropriation and composes fictions exploiting polysemy and ambiguities (narrative and formal) of specific artifacts. Pfund is particularly interested in the representation of art and the various values and ideologies that underlie it, with a particular sensitivity to art in the public space. The processes of copying and reproduction play an important role in his work, which ranges in scale from paperweights to monumental sculptures.

Pfund holds a BFA (2014) and MFA (2016) in visuals arts from HEAD in Geneva, as well as a Master degree in Art History from Geneva University (2019). Pfund’s solo/duo shows include; Musée des Beaux-arts, La Chaux-de-fond (2020); Quark, Geneva (2020); Salle Crosier, Geneva (2021); Swiss art award, Basel (2019); Sonnenstube (2019) or Zabriskie Point, Geneva (2016). Pfund’s public sculptures comprise Neuchâtel public commission on Place Pury (2022); Sculpture Garden, Geneva Biennale curated by Devrim Bayard (2022); Smallville space - outside the walls, Neuchâtel (2017). Pfund’s works are notably part of FCAC and FMAC collection - public collection of the city of Geneva. In 2021, the artist received the Young talent price during the 74e Biennale of contemporary art at Musée des beaux-arts of La Chaux-de-Fonds.
