MSF Access
We advocate for access to lifesaving medicines, tests & vaccines for people in MSF programs & beyond.
This Ebola disease outbreak once again exposes persistent failures to ensure that accessible medical tools for diseases disproportionately affecting low- and middle-income countries are prioritised, funded, and produced as part of R&D. It has to change now.

With no validated treatments or vaccines yet, and limited diagnostics for Bundibugyo virus disease, R&D and funding must embed transparent and enforceable conditions from the outset to guarantee timely, sustainable access to affordable medical tools for the most affected communities.

📢This World Health Assembly , we’re calling for countries, donors, and other global health stakeholders to urgently dismantle the barriers blocking access to lifesaving vaccination in conflict-affected settings by:
📌Removing administrative and bureaucratic blockages and strengthening collaboration between health authorities, humanitarian partners, and communities to ensure timely and unhindered access to vaccine supplies and hard-to-reach areas.
📌Ensuring flexible and adapted delivery models to reach children in conflict settings and stop delays in people’s access to lifesaving vaccines.
📌Dedicating sustained and agile financing to ensure immunisation activities reach people in the world’s most fragile areas.
Urgent action needed to close devastating vaccination coverage gaps in conflict-affected settings Sustained funding, timely and unhindered access to vaccine supplies, and flexible, secure and adapted delivery models required to reach more people with lifesaving vaccination in world’s most fragile areas

Did you know that the Pandemic Agreement, signed one year ago, is still on hold because of an annex? Enter the PABS annex!
Without the Pathogen Access and Benefit Sharing (PABS) annex, countries cannot ratify or implement the Pandemic Agreement, but major disagreements remain unresolved. Governments must advance negotiations toward a strong multilateral PABS framework to ensure access is based on enforceable benefit‑sharing.
“For decades, MSF has witnessed communities in resource-limited settings affected by deadly outbreaks, including Ebola and more recently COVID-19, often receive no or severely delayed access to lifesaving medical tools. Communities who share critical samples and data, and those most at risk during outbreaks and health emergencies cannot anymore be the last to benefit from medical innovation,” highlighted Dr Maria Guevara, MSF International Medical Secretary. “We strongly urge governments to act now.”
Countries must lay groundwork to turn Pandemic Agreement commitments into access for all MSF calls on countries to prepare for early implementation of the Pandemic Agreement.
We address antimicrobial resistance through dedicated prevention, detection, and response efforts in over twenty countries and across fifty projects. Like in this one In the Central African Republic ( ), where we support patients infected with antibiotic-resistant bacteria.
Thanks to the microbiology laboratory integrated into the SICA hospital in Bangui, CAR, profiles are identified and patients can be treated effectively.

Vaccines are one of the most successful and widespread public health tools used to protect against disease, but they’re not always affordable, adapted to context, or accessible to everyone who needs them. And, in some cases, there are simply no vaccines available yet to protect against certain diseases.
With 14.3 million children having missed out on receiving any vaccination in 2024, it’s time to close the gap in vaccine access.
This World Immunisation Week and beyond, MSF teams in Pakistan, France, South Sudan, Nigeria, and Sudan share access and innovation advancements that, if achieved in the years to come, could result in lifesaving vaccines reaching more people around the world.
A shot of urgency: Five key pathways to reach more people with lifesaving vaccines This World Immunisation Week and beyond, MSF teams in Pakistan, France, South Sudan, Nigeria, and Sudan share access and innovation advancements that, if achieved in the years to come, could result in lifesaving vaccines reaching more people around the world.
In 2024, half of the 14.3 million children who missed out on receiving any vaccination lived in countries affected by conflict, fragility, or humanitarian crises. It's time to close this gap through timely access to vaccines for all children, everywhere.
