🌍 The first UPR UK Model has officially taken place!

In May, the simulation brought together 24 students from five universities — the , Newcastle University, the University of Dundee, Leeds Beckett University and the University of Worcester — for a hands-on experience of the Universal Periodic Review process.

More than a simulation, the UPR Model is a space to build skills, confidence and awareness — preparing the next generation to engage meaningfully with human rights mechanisms.

Through the UPR, States are regularly called upon to safeguard civic space, prevent excessive use of force and protect those who exercise their right to peaceful assembly.

From 4 to 15 May 2026, 14 States were reviewed in Geneva during the 52nd UPR Working Group session.

Recommendations addressed key issues including gender equality, children’s rights, freedom of expression, access to justice, migration, disability rights and climate change.
