In Committee 2, the MUN Regio began with an introduction by guest speaker Oliver Hegglin. Afterwards, the chairs instructed the participants in the customs that diplomats have to observe at the United Nations.
The debate was started by the opening speeches of the delegations and chaired by Oliver F. and Lakshmi. The topic of the committee was rising sea levels and the related problems of coastal protection related to SDG13.
In the ensuing discussion, two blocs quickly formed. One consisted of industrialised nations, the other of developing countries, which were particularly affected by coastal recession.
After the first day of negotiations, the outlines of a resolution were already emerging. This was further elaborated and adopted on the second day. It included comprehensive climate targets and aid for the affected nations. 🌱✍️
