Andi Gisler / Guitar Routes

Four years ago I saw Pat Metheny Side-Eye III in London and it was spectacular. About a week later I played my release concert for the first 'Guitar Routes' album. I just saw the expanded version 'Side-Eye III+' this Friday in Freiburg and it was at least as good. At this level, it's hard to 'rate' things and it's not necessary. Just like Pat's solo concert last year in Zürich, this again was nothing but joyful, moving and very dynamic. The man is 71 years old and still touring constantly. 2 hours and 30 minutes and honestly, it could have been even longer..... Extremely inspiring and the band with mostly younger players is fantastic. A few select highlights among many: 'Bright Size Life' - he probably plays it at most concerts but it is always different and exciting. 'First Circle' and some great contributions from percussionist/singer Leonard Patton. The tune 'Urban and Western' from the new record and the acoustic interludes Metheny played on baritone guitar. 'Phase Dance' in duo guitar/piano setting with the great keyboard player Chris Fishman who looks about 18 and probably isn't much older...Oh yeah, and a wild, noisy but exciting ride from drummer joe Dyson and Pat on FRETLESS acoustic guitar doing Ornette Coleman's Broadway Blues'.
And since my release concert for my new album will be on this Sunday, it is nice to get such a shipload of inspiration and good vibes like it happened four years ago!
