From a School Idea to Award-Winning and Impactful Innovation - PART 4

A Visualization Animation
----------------------------

To help people better understand how the robot worked, contributed by creating an interactive animation.

This animation demonstrated the robot’s movements and traffic control logic, making it easier for people to visualize how the system would operate in a real road environment.

His contribution played an important role in communicating the concept of the project.

From a School Idea to Award-Winning and Impactful Innovation - PART 3

How the Robot Worked (The Core Concept)
------------------------------------------------

The robot was designed to imitate a traffic police officer who provides traffic lights for regulating vehicles coming and going in all directions.

Here is how it operated:

At a four-way intersection, the robot would:
1. Face one direction (for example, the north-south axis)
2. Give access to vehicles on that lane by showing a green light
3. Block the perpendicular lane (east-west axis) with a red light
4. After a programmed delay, the robot would rotate 90 degrees
5. Access would then be granted to the perpendicular lane
6. The cycle repeats continuously

This created an alternating traffic flow system that mimicked how a human officer manages an intersection.

From a School Idea to Award-Winning and Impactful Innovation - PART 2

From January to June 2018, we worked tirelessly to develop the first version of the robot. This first prototype was built using pure electronic logic (wired logic). There was no programming involved at this stage.

The robot was constructed mainly from triplex wood, and all the logic controlling the signals was implemented using electronic circuits.

Technologies used in Version 1

1. Electronic circuits (wired logic)
2. Stepper motors
3. Traffic signal LEDs (Red, Yellow, Green)
4. Mechanical rotation system
5. Custom-built wooden structure

In 2018, while we were students in Industrial Electronics at Ecole du Cinquantenaire in Goma (DRC) , a simple conversation between friends led to one of the most meaningful projects we ever built together.

What started as an idea shared by a friend eventually became a fully functional intelligent traffic robot — a project that brought recognition to our school and later led me to win a national innovation challenge.

The idea was originally introduced by our brother . He approached me with a concept: What if we could build an intelligent robot capable of managing road traffic, similar to a traffic police officer but with automated signaling?

We decided to gather a group of classmates from our Industrial Electronics program to explore whether we could transform this idea into a working prototype.

That is how our team was formed.

🚦 Our Story as Began in 2018. Today, We're Still Building.

In 2018, a simple idea shared between two friends turned into one of the most meaningful engineering projects our team has ever worked on.

Back then, we were students in Industrial Electronics at Ecole du Cinquantenaire in Goma (DRC). Together with a group of classmates, we built an Intelligent Road Traffic Robot designed to help manage road intersections.

That project became the foundation of everything stands for today.

And together, we proved that young students with curiosity and determination can build meaningful technological solutions.

📖 The Full Story

We recently documented this journey — From a School Idea to Award-Winning and Impactful Innovation — in a detailed Medium article.

It includes photos, videos, and the complete story of how this project came to life.

Remember that : Innovation is rarely about working alone. It's about building ideas with others, learning together, and continuously improving.

This project was our beginning. And it continues to inspire the work we do today.

Thank you to everyone who has been part of this journey — from 2018 to now.
