Gentle somatics and joyful movement to help you let go of stress and tension, and reconnect with yourself. Calgary area & Online

Who else can’t help groovin’ at least a little bit when a great song comes on no matter where you happen to be? Walking path… grocery store… your car… wherevs!

That’s your body responding to the music. Just feeling the beat.

Letting your thinking brain turn off for a bit while you experience pure, innocent joy. 💓

Ever notice how the more you replay something, the bigger it gets, and the more you seem to feel it all over again?

Sometimes we don’t need another round of thinking, analyzing or figuring it out.

Sometimes we just need to give it somewhere to go. ❤️

What if your body could help you let go of what your mind keeps holding onto?

I had a realization recently.

There are still spaces in my life where I make myself smaller.

Sometimes, without even noticing, I become the version of myself that I believe will be more accepted in the space I’m in.

I share less. I quiet certain parts of myself. I leave pieces of myself at the door.

The interesting thing is… I often don’t notice I’m doing it in the moment.

Recently, my sleep was off. My mood was off. My body felt off.

It wasn’t until I left the environment that I understood why.

My mind hadn’t consciously registered what was happening.

But my body was already reacting.

So I’m curious…

Are there people or spaces where you become a slightly different version of yourself?

And what happens in your body when you do?

Dancing is one of the ways I find my way back to myself.

As I dance, I can feel myself opening back up… taking up space. Coming back to me.

If dancing it out sounds like something your body might enjoy, I have three Dance Alchemy experiences happening this September and I’d love to dance with YOU. ❤️

I’ll pop the registration link in the comments.

I saw this on a post the other day, so OF COURSE I had to try it. 😂

And what do you know…

It’s true. 💃

This is exactly the kind of silliness I love bringing into Dance Alchemy.

Moving our bodies doesn’t always have to be serious or look a certain way. Sometimes we get to shake our bums, laugh at ourselves and have some fun. ❤️

So… your turn. 😏

And if you decide to try it too, tag me in your reel. I’d love to cheer you on! 😂🙌

✨ What if letting go of some stress could actually be fun? ✨

We’re all carrying something… stress, tension, frustration, the never-ending mental load, or simply the weight of everyday life.

And sometimes we don’t need to think or talk our way through everything we’re carrying.

Sometimes it just feels really good to move, shake, dance, be silly… and let our bodies do what they naturally know how to do.

That’s one of the things I love most about Dance Alchemy. ❤️

It’s a gentle and playful movement practice that combines guided movement with the freedom to move in whatever way feels good for your body.

And this September, I’m offering four opportunities to experience it at a special $10 Discovery Rate, with options to join me both online and in person.

No dance experience is needed… just a willingness to move and have fun.

No judgment.

Just music, movement, and permission to be yourself.

And if you’ve danced with me before, I’d love to welcome you back.

Sometimes joy comes from something as simple as new patio cushions. ❤️

Our old cushions were still perfectly comfy, but they were definitely starting to look a little worn.

Which seems fair considering we’ve had them for 24 years. 😳😂

With our deck renovation coming up, I decided it was finally time for something new. And instead of playing it safe, I went:

A little more bold.
A little more colourful.
A LOT more fun.

And now, every time I look outside, I smile. 😀

It got me thinking about how often we look to the big things to bring us joy — the vacations, the celebrations, the exciting experiences.

But so much of life happens in the ordinary days in between.

A colourful cushion.
A favourite coffee mug.
Flowers on the table.
The cat basking in the sunshine.

Little things that simply make you happy when you see them.

What are some of the little everyday things in your world that make you smile?

Let’s notice more of those. ❤️

Yesterday, my body craved rest.

Today, it wanted to MOVE.

To breathe deeply.
To tap and bounce and shake.
To dance.
To move some energy.

So I went outside, put my bare feet in the grass, and listened.

And somewhere along the way, I realized just how ALIVE I felt. ❤️

And apparently, I had an audience. 😂

I haven’t seen a robin in my backyard in ages, but today one landed at the edge of the grass and just… watched me.

He stayed through the breathing and the quieter movement.

Then I started dancing.

Apparently that was his cue to leave. 😂

At the end, I lay down in the grass, arms and legs stretched out, and settled back into stillness.

I usually close my eyes here, but today, for some reason, I felt like opening them and looking up at the sky.

And just then, my little robin flew right over top of me.

Maybe it was coincidence.

Maybe it was just a robin doing robin things.

But it felt like a pretty beautiful way to end. ❤️

Yesterday, rest.

Today, movement.

And with it, this beautiful feeling of aliveness.

Neither one better than the other.

Just listening to what my body is asking for today.

This morning, it looked like not rushing.

Coffee on the deck. Sunshine on my face. Still in my pyjamas.

Nothing profound. Just noticing that I didn’t need to jump straight into the day.

Sometimes listening to my body really is that simple. ❤️

Who else finds it really hard to say no when all your friends are going? 🙋‍♀️

Even when you know you need a break?

Sometimes the hardest part isn’t knowing what we need.

It’s giving ourselves permission to choose it.

Because that little people-pleasing voice can be LOUD…

Will they be disappointed?
Will I miss out?
Should I just go anyway?

On my recent camping trip, I had one of those days. After days of being surrounded by people I love and doing all the fun things, I knew I’d reached my capacity.

So while everyone else headed out, I stayed behind.

And even though I knew it was what I needed, part of me still worried someone might be disappointed or take it personally.

Instead, I was met with understanding.

“I get it.”

“You need a day.”

“Enjoy your quiet.”

Maybe the people who love us don’t need us to push past our limits to prove we love being with them. ❤️

And maybe giving ourselves permission to sit one out gives someone else permission to do the same.

I shared more about this in my latest email. If these kinds of conversations speak to you, you can join my email list through my website, where I also share upcoming events and Dance Alchemy experiences. ❤️

There is something about being on the water early in the morning.

Before the world fully wakes up.

The lake is quiet.
The air feels softer.
Even my thoughts seem to slow down.

Years ago, I thought moments like this were about trying to stay calm all day.

Now I see them differently.

They’re not about creating a life where the water is always smooth.

They’re about giving my nervous system a chance to settle, so when life inevitably gets a little choppy, I have more capacity to move through it.

I don’t always have a paddleboard or a quiet lake nearby.

Sometimes it’s a walk.
Sometimes it’s dancing in my living room.
Sometimes it’s simply sitting with husband and my morning coffee before the day begins.

Whatever it looks like, these little moments have become less about escaping life…

…and more about preparing to meet it.
