Sweet port wine is a Christmas staple for many, the perfect drink to sip with a cheese board or paired with a mince pie. Whether drunk on its own or in a cocktail, the warming drink that originates in Portugal can be enjoyed daily in the run up to the big day.

This calendar from port wine producer Quevedo has 24 50ml bottles with whites, reds and rose mini bottles behind the calendar doors. Some doors hide wines aged for up to 30 years old which is spectacular sipped with a cheeseboard. (Best men’s advent calendars for 2024 - (Samuel Mathewson - The Independent))

There are still a few available at select private wine stores in Winnipeg. Go get them!

How to Describe Wine Using Fruit Clusters There are thousands of confusing terms to describe a wine’s flavors and aromas. The "Fruit First" theory makes it easy.

It's also best to keep your opened wine bottles upright during storage. It gives less contact to air over laying on its side. Enjoy!

La Boutique del Vino in Winnipeg has some DELICIOUS "IL MIO" Lambrusco in stock from Cleto Chiarli. This is an amazing Lambrusco for your holiday parties, or date night, or every night (we don't judge 😁)! Try this recipe.

How to Make Sparkling Cranberry Sangria
By Dana Beninati
Serves 10 to 12

Who doesn't love to make big batches of sangria during the holiday season. If you plan to prep your sangria in advance, make sure the Lambrusco is appropriately chilled. Also, don’t add the bubbly elements until just before serving, to maintain the batch’s effervescence. Pro tip: While fresh cranberries work beautifully in sangria, frozen cranberries essentially serve as mini ice cubes, helping to keep the beverage cold while adding flavour.

1 12-ounce bag frozen cranberries
2 navel oranges
2 cups cranberry-apple juice
½ cup orange or raspberry liqueur
1 750 ml bottle of "IL MIO" Lambrusco Rosso (red)
1 liter club soda
12 sprigs fresh rosemary, to garnish

Place the cranberries into a large pitcher. Wash the oranges well and thinly slice into bite-sized pieces and add to pitcher, along with cranberry-apple juice and liqueur. Top with the Lambrusco and club soda. Gently stir to combine. Serve over ice, garnished with a sprig of fresh rosemary.
