FLIGHT is a is a social justice advocacy & support community and not-for-profit entity of Dragonfly Consultation, Counselling & Research.
FLIGHT's focus is on tapping into the resources of our communities (professional, caregivers, youth, children, citizens, individuals, groups, activists etc) to work together in solidarity and provide support to other individuals, groups, agencies, organizations and systems to identify and combat social injustice and pursue social justice. The ways this can be achieved are many and so we don't exac
tly know what FLIGHT is... What we do know is that we don't want a prescriptive approach but rather an organic and emergent process - so FLIGHT can become what it needs to be. Our hope is that FLIGHT can be a venue and a mechanism to bring together individuals, groups, organizations and communities with a passion for promoting positive social change, to build a community of connectedness, caring and solidarity while taking a position to identify injustices and address abuses of power. We do not have a specific area of focus - very much believing each of our causes are inextricably bound with others. FLIGHT hopes to combine awareness, knowledge and the sharing of resources, to move beyond "smile campaigns" and rhetoric in addressing issues of social injustice and to take effective action towards creating equality and equity. We welcome your causes in this area (whatever they might be) and we welcome your passion. We also welcome your kindness - FLIGHT values and honours speaking up, speaking out and taking action in respectful, peaceful and caring ways -from our hearts but not from hate. The DRAGONFLY team will contribute to FLIGHT through the donation of our time, knowledge, passion and skills. We are looking to offer many of our Services (see Our Services) at no-cost or low-cost (honorariums) to groups or community organizations that are all too often operating on limited resources. We also commit to coordinating this community and other FLIGHT causes (our FLIGHTpaths). We encourage other professionals in the helping field (social workers, counsellors, teachers) students, nurses, doctors, therapists etc) and all community members to contact us to discuss how you can become involved and join the FLIGHT for social justice. Everyone and anyone can be involved.
