Identity Theft Information Session - FREE
Tuesday, June 22, 2021 — 7:00-8:30pm

Val Meiners & Darlene Dolinski are the hosts & presenters for this free online event. Identity theft is when someone uses another person's personal identifying information without their permission to commit fraud or other crimes. Consequences of becoming a victim of identity theft can range from trivial and easily resolved to nightmarishly devastating.

We will provide some insight into the breadth and scope of the identity theft problem, give some tips on how to prevent identity theft, & describe some issues involved in restoring your identity, should you become a victim.

There will be time for questions and answers.

Another VERY Happy Member!!
I bought an XBOX 1 bundle totaling about $600.00. Best Buy said I could return it within the next 14 days if I was not satisfied with my purchase. 4 days later, I went to return my bundle and they said that the serial number of my Xbox 1 didn’t match with the receipt and they couldn’t take my return. For an hour, we went back and forth on how this could possibly be a mistake! At the end, I left without making my return so I went home and vented to everyone I could possibly come in contact with. I stopped and thought… why wouldn't I just call my law firm and they can handle this situation
for me? I consulted with my lawyer and they sent a letter on my behalf to the Best Buy store Manager. 5 days later, I got a call from the store manager apologizing for what went wrong admitting that it was their mistake, because the clerk scanned the wrong UPC merchandise during my transaction!
A day later I got my full refund, a $50.00 gift card and I didn't pay a dime out of my pocket to use my law firm! BOOM! Thank you LegalShield!

‘REAL Results’ Member Story – I.D. Theft Issue Resolved!
We found that our chequing account overdraft was putting money into our checking account, despite us having plenty of money in it to cover our cheques. I had misplaced my debit card and thought it
was on my rather untidy desk. When I called the bank, I discovered that there were a number of charges on it, occurring long after I had last used it to purchase anything. I learned that I had bought
five tanks of gas, been to a restaurant for dinner and to a grocery store the day before. I stopped the card and marked the charges that weren’t mine for the bank. I then called LegalShield’s Identity
Theft Shield to report the crime. I filed and got a copy of the police report and forwarded it with a signed limited power of attorney form that LegalShield asked me to sign. That was really all I had to do. They ordered a tri-merge credit report for me to check for more fraud, then they went to work sending out letters and putting fraud alerts on our accounts. They did some searching in various data bases, looking for more fraud. Luckily, there was nothing else so, after 90 days, I received a thick folder with copies of the actions they had taken on my behalf. They asked if I was okay with closing the file and reassured me that, if the theft started up again, to just call and they would reopen the case again.
It was a huge relief not to have to do all that they did on my behalf. Not only did I not want to do it, I didn’t have the time. They did in 90 days what it would have taken me two or three years to accomplish, if I ever got it done. My case was limited. I can’t imagine what I would have done, if the thief had gotten more than
my debit card. If it ever happens again, both my husband and I know that Kroll is watching our backs. Since we became members, I have personally received three letters from companies apologizing for losing my information. I realize that there is no way we can prevent them from being so careless, no matter how much we shred or secure our mail. We have no control regarding how

Thanks to our research on drunk driving laws, our letter and numerous emails and calls to the member, the member had his driving suspension of 90 days and impounding of car for 30 days reduced to two weeks. The member was stopped at a roadside blockade and forced to do a breathalyser. He failed but it has been found that these tests are not constitutional and the Office of the Superintendent overturned the suspension.
LegalShield lawyer, Joe Carangi made this argument for the member and saved him about $1500.00 in impounding fees and got his licence back which he needs to drive big trucks in the Alberta oil patch. This was a big victory for the member and enforces the new trends in D.U.I. laws in the BC courts.
