ClearLightSound had the privilege to host two truly great concerts by legendary pianist Lubomyr Melnyk. The March 27th and 28th performances were jaw-droppingly incredible. It's hard to describe a form of music that doesn't exist anywhere else but where the Maestro plays. His creation of the Continuous Music genre, the delicate, achingly beautiful meditations, the stupefying speed and the roaring, pulsing tsunami of his 2-piano pieces that open a portal into other dimensions, can only be directly experienced in a live setting, such as the intimate environment of the studio. The reality is that the audience was eventually hearing what the master wasn't playing, the space awash in the overtones, undertones and harmonics that blended into the endlessly flowing notes of the played melodies. LUBOMYR MELNYK is in the studio at ClearLightSound. These photos and video show the Maestro warming up the piano for Friday evening's concert, which was completely sold out. Shown is a walk around of the microphone placement to record the concert, along with Lubomyr Melnyk and assistant engineer, James Dewar. Throughout Friday's concert, the audience was enthralled and transported to new dimensions in music by the prodigious power of Mr. Melnyk's awesome performance. He not only received an ovation at the end of the concert, but a spontaneous second standing ovation to show the audience's heartfelt appreciation for what they had just had the privilege to experience.

It's always a real benefit to musicians and drummers alike, for a recording studio to have a Drum Room with a great drum kit. We certainly have that with the beautiful Premier Maple kit, with all the bells and whistles. Recently, ClearLightSound has been extremely fortunate in acquiring another brilliant drum set-up, with the incredible Taye Studio Maple, which has what every drummer would wish for in terms of raw power and variety of tone. It was a gas, setting up the miking and then hearing the difference in the sonic qualities between the two set-ups. Needless to say, they both sound uniquely awesome. Helping with getting it all ready was drummer and assistant engineer, James Dewar. Chances are, you're going to be hearing a lot from this talented young musician and engineer.

Music is life, and for those who play an instrument or simply love music, it usually starts with a student being interested and then learning from a teacher. Celebrating that musical progression at ClearLightSound, was the end of year recital for Bernadette Geras, her students and their families. It is from the warm supportive environment of such gatherings everywhere, that the future musicians and even stars will arise. So next time you hear and listen to some music or go to a concert, no matter the genre or medium, no matter how old or new, just know that it likely started in some little enclave like this, where all levels of students mixed with each other and heard themselves play - as musicians. Musicians everywhere owe a great deal of thanks to the teachers that helped get them where they are. Music is a calling that's been continuously perpetuated since before humans left the caves. And it has been a fundamental force in helping human civilization develop. May it continue to be so. 😀💖🎶

Lubomyr Melnyk's piano concert at First Presbyterian Church was a revelation. To say Maestro Melnyk's music is powerful, is to understate the dynamic breadth and otherworldly dimensions that he brings to the instrument. His description of his music not only included the contributions of the pianist and the piano, but also the tuner of the instrument. In fact, he gave a great deal of credit to master tuner, Jay Taylor, for the superlative job he did on the beautiful Baldwin grand, and said that throughout his worldwide concerts, Jay's tuning was the best he'd ever heard. High praise indeed.

There is not a pianist like Lubomyr. His world record speeds of notes, his delicate subtlety and roaring hurricane of sound, the unreal coaxing of hidden harmonics, overtones, undertones and impossible sounds coming out of keys, strings and soundboard, elevate the piano to a level never before achieved or heard. The entire cavernous space of the church was completely filled, and the audience encapsulated within that piano's soul, its sadness, its elation, its, ferocity, its purity and beauty, coming through the hands and touch of a genius.

Although Winnipeg has had famous musicians coming out of it, Lubomyr Melnyk, who grew up here and later moved to Europe, will come to be known as one of its greatest legends. His music will endure and be studied by future generations. As for those who heard this astounding performance, some cried, some prayed, some are still processing, but none who were there will forget the experience.

It was a privilege to attend the superb Sheena Legrand concert and celebration of her mother Heather Grobb's 70th birthday. The music was beautiful, and it featured duets with Heather and pianist Deborah Judith, who formed the duo of The Oracles. As well, Heather and Sheena blended their voices in choral harmonies of Christmas songs together. It was a real treat to hear Daniel Legrand add his beautiful voice to some of the songs. Sheena also performed a variety of new pieces from her upcoming album release. The crowd enthusiastically gave Heather, Sheena and all supporting musicians a standing ovation. It's not an understatement to say that this province has produced a wealth of incredible musicians.

We had master piano tuner, Jay Taylor, in the studio at ClearLightSound, bringing the Kawai grand into perfect harmony. According to no less a piano virtuoso than Maestro Lubomyr Melnyk, Jay is the best piano tuner he's encountered anywhere in the world. We've always loved and appreciated Jay's work and he truly is the best. Thank you. 😀💖🙏🎶
