Get up and move for at least 1 minute for every 30 minutes you spend sitting to help minimize its harmful effects. The frequency of your breaks is more important than the duration. So 2 minutes of activity after an hour of sitting is NOT just as good. How frequently do you get up when you work at your desk?

Do your shoulders hurt if you sleep on your side? With this, I commonly find dysfunctions of the ligaments joining the ribs and sternum. For a DIY correction, try laying on a foam roller (lengthwise) and practice chest breathing to open up these joints.

An often overlooked culprit behind upper shoulder pain and tightness is restriction of the latissismus dorsi muscles. If stretching isn't helping, there's a reason. Those tight muscles are part of your body's solution, not part of the problem. Try stretching an opposing muscle and see if that helps better.
