RSI on the Ground was a follow-up to our solar energy installation and community training program in the remote community of Cartwright, NL in August/September 2025. In partnership with the NunatuKavut Community Council (NCC) with support from the Town of Cartwright and the Sandwich Bay 50+ Club, solar installers from Green Sun Rising and 11 community members teamed up to install a 10.2kW system on the roof of the local Marion Centre.

Iron & Earth is a vehicle for community-building. We work with communities, and learn as much from them as they do from us. As soon as we arrive, we embrace the local lifestyle, and completely immerse ourselves in the community: from boat riding, to local walks, waving at each local as they do, making dinner for the team where everyone is welcome, and attending a ceremonial drum dance telling the story of the local residential school. We meet everyone where they are at, whether they are 17 years-old, or 60+, with all their specific needs and strengths. Our first Forging Futures webinar will explore key lessons and stories from the past year of collaboration between Iron & Earth’s Renewable Skills Initiative (RSI), the NunatuKavut Community Council (NCC), the Town of Cartwright, the Sandwich Bay 50+ Club, and Green Sun Rising.

This is a great chance to ask questions directly to community members who participated in an RSI project and learn more about how Iron & Earth maximizes impact in community-centered renewable skills projects.
