Thank you to the Town of Whitby for inviting members of Local 2036 to attend and speak at this yearβs Staff Pride Fest!
Pride is about building communities where everyone feels safe, valued, and empowered to be themselves, and events like this play an important role in making that possible.
We are so grateful for the opportunity to stand alongside our community, celebrate inclusion, and support LGBTQIA+ members in our workplace and in our community.
Thank you to everyone who helped organize such a meaningful event!
We are so proud to be a part of it year after year!

Congratulations to the four IAFF members taking part in the Governor Generalβs Canadian Leadership Conference.
Best of luck to Winnipeg President Nick Kasper, Alberta President Elliott Davis, Toronto Executive Officer Ryan Grech, and Whitby Professional Fire Fighters Association Vice President Josh Girard as they represent the fire service at this prestigious leadership program.
This is an incredible opportunity to engage with leaders from across Canada and continue advancing leadership within the fire service and our communities.
Professional firefighters continue to lead both on and off the job, and we are proud to see IAFF members represented at this level.

Congratulations to Brother Captain Ken βKennyβ VanStaveren on his retirement after 35 years of dedicated service to the community of Whitby!
Ken began his career as a volunteer member, completing 6 years before transitioning to full-time service, where he dedicated an exceptional 29 years!
Those who have had the pleasure of working alongside Ken would describe a career defined by passion for the job, and that even after 35 years, that drive and commitment never dampened.
Ken has also been regarded as an incredibly hard worker throughout his career, consistently setting the standard through his dedication, reliability, and leadership, on and off the job.
Above all, Ken was deeply caring to both the members he worked with and to the community he served for so many years. His support and compassion left a lasting impact on those around him, on and off of the trucks.
We thank you for your service and leadership Brother, and wish you all the best in retirement!
