Crown Restoration for this mature Sugar Maple. It's a pleasure to have regular clients who care about their trees. We've been working on promoting health of this old sugar for a couple years now; air spade to remove excess soil around the root flair and amend compact soil, deep root fertilization with natural minerals and nutrients and promoting healthy soil microorganisms, canopy reduction to reduce risk of storm damage and remove dead and damaged limbs.
Thank you to our regular clients for trusting in Tree Effects to care for your trees 💜

FIRST ANNUAL AUTUMN ARBORIST GOLF TOURNAMENT FUNDRAISER
In Memory of the Legendary Chainsaw Bob’s beloved Brother
We are thrilled to introduce the first-annual Autumn Arborist Golf Tournament Fundraiser.
This year, our fundraising efforts will honour the memory of Sean Smith, Bob Smith’s brother, who passed away on June 24th, 2025. Sean was a resident of Camphill Communities in Angus, an incredible organization dedicated to supporting adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities in Simcoe County. For the past 13 years, Camphill’s compassionate staff enriched Sean's life, offering him the opportunity to enjoy a beautiful natural setting filled with nature, farm animals, and engaging activities that foster both mind and body. One of Sean’s favourite pastimes was working in the woodshop. He loved the outdoors, taking walks in the forest, and playing in the autumn leaves as a child. All proceeds will be directed towards planting trees at the Camphill community site this November.
The Golf Tournament is scheduled at Westview Golf Course in Aurora on Sunday, October 19th. We are aiming to assemble 10-12 foursomes, with tee-off starting at noon. Any singles interested in participating will be paired on the day of the event. We will have a 50/50 Raffle, prizes awarded for longest drives, closest to the pin, and other fun team challenges. Donations to play par 3s from the forward tees, and donations to pick a team to play from the back tees for the round. Green and cart fees will be paid directly to Westview Golf on the day of the event.
If you're unable to participate but would like to sponsor prizes or contribute donations for tree planting, your support would be greatly appreciated.
Registration due by OCTOBER 7, 2025. `
Please contact Jennifer Carroll at Tree Effects to Register or donate at 416-805-5142.

I’m terrible at taking videos or pics during work, especially after pics, but these were a couple fun hazardous trees to dismantle. If they failed, they risked landing on a large brand new propane tank as well as a camp cabin. It was a great time to break out the GRCS to lift it up out of the hemlocks they rested in and piece it down from the ground, pulling the butt end back with a 3:1 as we cut it. Everything came down smooth with no damages to property or neighbouring trees. Great morning work!

When assessing hazard trees turns into joyful finds.
Hey little guy! 🦎💜 When you find salamanders in Ontario, it seems to always be a reminder that who ever named them was likely very simple minded and logical. 🤣 This is the Red-backed salamander.

Mitigating risks over a camp roadway..
This big oak had a number of storm broken limbs and large deadwood. Unfortunately, this particular large limb had all of the live growth break in the ice storm. Rather than making a large wound on the main trunk, we went against general practice and left a large stub. An oak of this age has a slow rate of compartmentalization (healing over wounds) therefore would likely never heal over in time to prevent risks of decay. It's better to have a cavity on a lateral limb than the main upright trunk with the entire canopy of weight above it. Since we've entered the growing season, we are also in Oak wilt risk where it is not recommended to prune live growth on Oaks. We took the addition precaution of spraying pruning paint on the large wound to reduce tree pheromones from attracting the disease carrying beetles. Aesthetics are not the goal here. Safety is priority.
What a beautiful day for climbing up and down forest trees mitigating hazards.
