MAT HERO SPORTLIGHT

This April, in partnership with Sask Sport, the ignite Volunteerism campaign. We're proud to recognize one of our incredible Mat Heroes.

Warren Seib

Warren will always take the time to help you work on the finer details of your judo. He has a real gift for slowing things down and making sure athletes understand what they’re doing, not just going through the motions.

He’s also the best uke a tori could ask for. He’ll take a throw, get back up, and go again — “get knocked down 30, get up 31.” That kind of attitude says everything about him.

What stands out most is how much he enjoys the hard work and how he passes that on to the kids. He encourages them to push themselves, stay focused, and keep improving so they can be the best version of themselves on the mat.

Warren brings effort, patience, and heart to every practice. 💚

Ryan Potts

Ryan might come across as one of the biggest kids on the mats, and that’s exactly why the kids love him.

He brings a smile to every judoka’s face and has a way of making training fun. You’ll often find him sparring with two, three, even four kids at a time… and more often than not ending up caught in a double arm bar.

But Ryan brings more than just fun.

He’s also a referee, and when he puts on the suit, he brings professionalism, knowledge, and respect to the mat.

Then he steps back into his gi and brings the energy, the laughter, and the heart that keeps everyone coming back.

He truly brings the best of both worlds, and our judo community is better because of it. 💚

Glen Miller

Glen has been a proud sensei for many years, and his impact is evident in so many athletes who have come through the club.

He’s coached not only his own kids, but countless others along the way, always bringing patience, experience, and a genuine love for the sport.

What really stands out is how he gets right on the mats with the kids. He connects with them, keeps them engaged, and makes learning judo something they truly enjoy.

That kind of presence makes a lasting difference.💚

Cindy McLean

Cindy is one of the most community-minded volunteers a club could ever ask for.

She’s always working behind the scenes. From organizing fundraisers, to helping negotiate the purchase of a new dojo, to applying for grants that keep things running. So much of what she does goes unseen, but it makes a huge difference.

And just as importantly, she’s always there, cheering on the kids, supporting them every step of the way.

Cindy truly embodies the spirit of judo dedication, community, and care for others. 💚
