Hi folks. We're gearing up for Canada Day festivities here at the beach and needing to recruit some important helpers.
The Rec Board is a small group of people holding accountability for the organization that is here to produce events and recreational offerings/amenities in partnership with volunteers.
Canada Day is one of two major events on our roster and for the second year is being helped along by a Canadian Heritage grant.
To respond to volunteer opportunities in this call, please direct message Manitou Beach Recreation. A comment under the post you are seeing may not reach us if you are looking at a shared version of it in a group.
If you are interested in being a vendor or entertainer, there are application links at the bottom of this post that you can follow. I'm okay if entertainers message directly, but need vendors to complete the application. The information you need about participating can be found at these links. To help streamline things in these busy days, please go there before asking questions directly.
THE PLAN
This year we will bring back the pancake breakfast, parade and entertainment stage. Our vendor market will continue and so will the fireworks produced by Manitou Springs Resort and Mineral Spa and supported with some of the funds from the Canadian Heritage.
We are also adding an interactive exhibit for the purpose of reflecting on and sharing what we value about Canada and wish to see continue.
We will have one main festival site on the vacant lot owned by the spa at the corner of MacLaughlan and Watrous. The market will also be located here and the parade will go by here.
First Call: Local artists for the entertainment stage. (Noon to 11pm) What we can't fill with locals, we will fill with visiting acts.
Second Call: Stage Coordinator & Stage Manager to help organize performers, emcees and audio day of show.
Third Call: Volunteers for the pancake breakfast. 3-hour shifts between 7am and 11 am
Fourth Call: People to participate in the parade. (9am muster, 10am parade)
Fifth Call: Volunteers for set up and take down. This will involve setting up Lane's big tent 1-3 days ahead, subject to the presence of wind. Muscly people preferred.
Sixth Call: Market Vendors (there are about 12 out of 24 spaces left).

Postponed
Postponed - darn it! No one will enjoy being out in the wet, cold wind. If we can plan another day, we'll let you know.
It doesn't have to be an organized event, just stop sometime and grab a few items on you own... Thanks in advance.
Rec Board Meeting tomorrow night, 7pm at the community hall. Everyone welcome. Our agenda includes, but isn't limited to, the welcoming of 3 new board members, Canada Day planning and a new billboard project. We end every meeting with a roundtable.
Hope to see some of you there.
