If these photos have a mission, it is to demonstrate the process of resilience through the natural world.

The word diamond is derived from the Greek word adámas which means “unalterable", "unbreakable “ and "untamed", in fact diamonds are the world’s strongest natural substance, as only a diamond can break a diamond. Diamonds are known for their strength, beauty and fortune, however it is how they were formed that makes them resilient. Diamonds are formed at the earth’s mantle at temperatures between 932 to 1,652 °F. That being said the diamonds that we see today went through billions of years of strain and pressure just to be the way they are now.

Like diamonds, pearls are also resilient. There are a number of similarities between our lives and process of pearl formation. A pearl starts off as a little grain of sand/dirt and through the many years of pressure and rigid conditions inside of a clams shell it forms a beautiful pearl. Like pearls, humans are resilient in order to get through tough times while bettering themselves. Like humans, each diamond and pearl is unique, with diverse characteristics and countless imperfections, yet still brilliant none the less.
