At Shad, it’s more than a month of STEAM, entrepreneurship, and discovery. It’s the people you meet, the ideas you build together, and the memories that stay with you long after July.

In celebration of the past Asian Heritage Month, we interviewed Shad alum Chloe Guan for her story of culture, curiosity, and finding connection across disciplines. Born in Dalian, China and raised in Montréal, Chloe grew up moving between Mandarin, French, and English. At Shad A-Plus, she found a space where arts, science, the humanities, and her own experiences could come together.

You don’t need to feel ready to begin.
At Shad, growth often starts with one brave attempt, one new challenge, one moment of trying anyway.

Learning works best when ideas are clear, focused, and easy to connect.
That’s the idea behind Decode: a weekly series that breaks down STEAM concepts into simple, practical explanations.
From the science behind how we learn to the ideas shaping the world around us, Decode makes complex topics easier to understand, one concept at a time.

Congratulations, Shrey! 🙌
We’re excited to welcome you to Shad this summer and see where your curiosity, leadership, and ideas take you.
🎉Congratulations to Shrey Desai, a student from Saugeen District Senior School, who has been accepted into Shad Canada, a nationally recognized, competitive program supporting Canadian youth in STEAM, entrepreneurship, and career exploration! Selected through a rigorous application process, Shrey will spend one month at a Canadian post-secondary institution this summer.
❓We asked Shrey about the decision to pursue this opportunity:
1️⃣ What led to your decision to apply for this program?
I decided to apply to the Shad program because I have always been interested in innovation, leadership, and STEM related fields. I was excited by the opportunity to meet motivated students from across Canada, challenge myself academically, and experience hands-on learning outside of the regular classroom environment.
2️⃣ What are you hoping to learn through this opportunity?
Through this opportunity, I am hoping to strengthen my problem solving, leadership, and collaboration skills while learning more about entrepreneurship, technology, and real-world applications of STEM. I am also excited to build connections with other students, mentors, and professionals from across Canada and expand my network through the program.
3️⃣ What career pathway(s) are you hoping to pursue?
I am currently interested in pursuing a career in engineering or business. I hope this experience will help me explore these fields further and gain a better understanding of the opportunities available within them.
Good luck and best wishes to Shrey on such an exciting accomplishment!! 👏
