Must-Have Monday: Body Map of Emotions
Here’s a creative way to help your child explore their emotions!
Ask your child to pick colors that represent different feelings and color the parts of the body where they experience those emotions. For example, they might color their fists red for anger or their chest yellow to show happiness.
Take some time to discuss how specific sensations feel.
For example:
👉 What does anger feel like in your fists? Does it hurt, or does it give you energy?
This activity encourages emotional awareness and gives kids tools to better recognize their feelings when it matters most.

🧠 Fun Fact Friday: Testing Boundaries Is a Normal Part of Childhood Development 🛑
Did you know that it’s completely normal—and even healthy—for kids to test boundaries? Pushing limits is how they explore their environment, figure out what’s acceptable, and learn how the world works. It’s their way of saying, “Are the rules still the same today?”
Though it can feel frustrating, maintaining consistent boundaries is essential for their growth and sense of security. When caregivers stay calm and steady, kids learn that the world is predictable and safe—even if they show their frustration with phrases like, “You’re so mean!”
It’s important to remember:
✅ Testing boundaries is developmentally appropriate.
✅ Children need adults to maintain those boundaries, even when they resist them.
✅ Kind and respectful limits leave kids feeling safe, even if they only express annoyance in the moment.
So, when your child pushes back, know that it’s just part of their job. Your job is to hold those boundaries with kindness—and trust that, deep down, your consistency is helping them thrive.

This week, we’re excited to share the Mood Meter, developed by the Yale Center for Emotional Intelligence! 🌟 It’s a powerful tool to help families check in with their emotions daily. Whether it’s excited, frustrated, calm, or worried, naming emotions is the first step toward managing them.
Here’s how the Mood Meter can help:

🧠 Builds emotional intelligence and self-awareness
🤝 Strengthens family bonds by promoting empathy
Try setting aside a moment each day for everyone to point to how they’re feeling. Remember, all feelings are valid!

Fun Fact Friday: Stages of Moral Development in Childhood!
Did you know that one of the first major theories of moral development, proposed by psychologist Lawrence Kohlberg in the 1980s, focused on justice reasoning? He outlined three stages:
1. Pre-conventional Stage (ages 2-7): Kids make decisions based on avoiding punishment or getting rewards. “If I clean up, I get a treat!”
2. Conventional Stage (ages 7-12): Children start to care about following rules and gaining approval. “Being good means following the rules!”
3. Post-conventional Stage (teens and beyond): Older kids and teens begin to think about fairness and justice. “What’s right isn’t always what’s popular!”
Since then, other theories have emerged, adding empathy, care, and relationships as key aspects of moral development. Can you see these stages reflected in the children and youth in your life?
