The person stimming
and flapping their
arms might
be excited and
happy to see you.
The person
over-sharing and
interrupting might
be uncomfortable
because someone
new joined the
group.
The person who is
normally chatty
might be quiet and withdrawn because
they argued with
a family member right
before joining
your group.
There is meaning
behind behaviour and
our class hosts are
trained to look for
that meaning.
Lubdub
classes
prioritize
people.

People first, content second. Sometimes the best class is the one where we stray from the presentation to share stories, laugh and have fun. Our live, online classes have structure but that structure is not rigid because we recognize the importance of social time and friendships.
AI cannot create these human connections, which is why Lubdub is different. Put your hand over your heart and tap two times … “lubdub”. The heartbeat of what we do is creating a people centred, inclusive community for adults with developmental disabilities to learn, play and make friends.
ID: A bright pink background with blue curves in the corners and a quote by John Evelyn that states: Friendship is the golden thread that ties the heart of all the world.” A white background with blue and pink curves in the corners that reads: “People first, content second. We make space in each class for members to connect and make friends.” A Lubdub member spotlighted in an online interview as he shares a funny story about a friend he met in an online class. Another bright pink background with the words “ Evan and Tony are just one example of the many friendships formed here at Lubdub.” The reel ends with:”Try a free class! Wednesday, June 17 at 4:30 PM EST.”There is a QR code with the words “scan to register or visit our bio to get the link.”

These are just two examples of jokes that mock people with developmental disabilities. It may feel uncomfortable to not laugh along and to walk away, but doing so sends a message that words matter. Sometimes the loudest person in the room is the person who says nothing at all. Thank you to all of the disability allies out there!
ID: Alternating light blue and burgundy graphics explaining why statements like “we all have a bit of the tism” and “you must have ridden on the short bus” are not funny and reflect ableism, making fun of people with developmental disabilities.
🎶🎵”In summer!!!!!!”🎶🎵Are you loving this summer weather as much as we are? It feels like the warm hugs that Olaf from the movie, Frozen enjoys. We decided to draw Olaf in today’s drawing class and Virtual Host Linda has a dog named Olaf too!

Each Monday morning in the Good Morning Part 2 class we reflect on the good things that happened last week and make a list of what we are looking forward to this week. We also set monthly and weekly personal goals. The group enjoys challenging each other to try new things and celebrating wins. This new class has quickly become a favourite class for many of our members.
