Yesterday we painted lotus flowers for Mother’s Day 🪷

Well… some stayed lotus flowers.
Some slowly turned into mandalas.

But honestly, that wasn’t the important part.

The important part was the feeling.✨️

Tea, cookies, building circles and petals…
and then watching the colors slowly flow on paper.

Such a meditative process 🧘‍♀️

And honestly… what could be a better Mother’s Day gift than a few peaceful creative hours for yourself? 💛

Happy Mother's Day! 🪷

First portrait attempt 👌

Yes, it’s a big challenge and a big jump, as my student said — but at the same time, he surprised himself. 😊
He thought he couldn’t draw portraits.

You never know until you try ✨

Such an amazing resultvfor the first portrait drawing, right? 👏

Have you ever surprised yourself with something you thought you couldn’t do?

Still life is not an easy subject — especially when drawing from real life instead of a photo. 😅

There’s a lot happening at once:
shape, proportion, light, shadow, composition, watercolor technique…🖌

And one of the biggest challenges — seeing a 3D object in front of you and translating it onto a 2D piece of paper.

That’s why we didn’t jump straight into painting.

First, we worked on sketches separately, studied the objects, shapes, proprtions, spaces, explored shading, and slowly built understanding step by step.

Then came watercolor.🎨

And everyone did beautifully 💛

This balance of structure and creative freedom is a big part of my teaching approach.👩‍🏫

Learn to observe.
Understand the structure.
Then make it your own ✨

P.S. Our Watercolor Flowers classes for teenagers start June 2 🎨
We’ll continue exploring structure — flowers this time — while learning watercolor techniques and observational drawing.

Create with Me 💛

Look at our examples 👆 and get some inspiration to create your own portrait.✨️

Draw a simple pencil face on colored paper

Build the hair with patterned paper
(yes, Dollarama treasures ✂️)

Tear for a soft, expressive look…
or cut and place each piece carefully — the “engineer way” one of my students loves 👌

Play with color and texture.
Mix, layer, try, change.

Hair can be anything — shapes, textures…
even birds can live in your hair 🐦😁

At the end, trace the lines with colored pencils.
Add color… or don’t.

Enjoy! 💛

It might be a lovely idea for a creative Mother’s Day moment ✨️

NEW!!! Art Lab for Kids 📐✏️

What if kids could see structure in complex shapes — and learn how to build them step by step?

In this short course, we focus on using tools — ruler, triangle, compass, circle maker — to understand how shapes work and how they can be used to create art.

Flowers, patterns, compositions — everything starts from simple forms and grows into something more complex.

It’s about learning how to see, build, and create with intention.

A structured, hands-on approach that helps kids understand geometry through art — in a visual and engaging way.

🗓 May 23, 30 & June 6 (Saturdays)
🕧 12:30 – 1:30 PM
✨ 3 classes
👧 Ages 8–12
📍 Yulia ArtSpace · Downtown Kitchener

Lotus meditation 🪷

Drawing a lotus is a very meditative process.
The circle, the rhythm of the petals, repeating shapes — it gently brings you into a calm, focused state.🧘‍♀️

And then watercolor…
watching the color flow, blend, and move freely — just enjoying the process.🧘‍♀️

A beautiful way to celebrate Mother’s Day —
on your own, with your mom, or as a thoughtful gift 💛

✨ May 9 · 5:00 – 7:30 PM
📍 Yulia ArtSpace · Downtown Kitchener
🚗 Free parking beside the building
