Gerard J Kelly

Gerard John Kelly is a Newfoundland Artist who was born at Burin, Newfoundland in 1960 to John and Helen Kelly of Mooring Cove Newfoundland. He spent his formative years growing up in Mooring Cove and Marystown, Newfoundland, and his attachment to these places have informed his career and art.Gerard has worked and studied with some of Newfoundland´s foremost artists, such as Don Wright, Scott Goudie, and his mentor and friend Gerry Squires. He studied with Ray Mackie at College of the North Atlantic in Stephenville, Newfoundland from 1980 to 1982 and graduated with a Diploma in Applied Art in Fine Art. In 1984 he graduated from the Nova Scotia College of Art and Design with a Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree. He graduated from The University of Alberta with a Master of Fine Arts.Gerard has exhibited internationally for many years, having taken part in solo and group shows in Ireland, Greece, Turkey, Bosnia-Herzegovina, India, and USA, and Canada.Gerard worked at The University of Alberta during his Masters Studies and also at Memorial University of Newfoundland for 19 years as a Technical Instructor in Sculpture.Gerard presently lives in Lima, Peru and maintains his practice in a wide range of media, including Wood, Stone, Mixed Media, Paint, Collage, Acrylic Gel Transfer, and video.
