UW ETIC Club | In the "Trump Economy" 05/11/2017

It is a hot summer day in Las Vegas during the year of 2019. In front of a Russian Roulette wheel there sit four people: Eric, Tom, Ian, and Calvin.

Eric was a billionaire who invested heavily in Canadian companies, but he lost all of his money recently due to the weakened Canadian economy.

Tom was the owner of a Ford auto factory in Ontario, now he just lost his job because the company decided to move the factory back to the U.S. since the taxes are cheaper there.

Ian was a mechanical engineer at an oil company in Alberta, and he is also unemployed since the oil company had to cut huge expenses due to the low demand from the U.S.

Calvin, as a lumberjack in Canada, he was forced to leave his job since the lumber company he worked for just declared bankruptcy.

Now, the four Canadians met for the first time on a casino table, hoping they can use the last penny in their pockets to save themselves from poverty.

Is it possible that this story can actually happen in the future?
As the Canadian government, what actions should we take in order to prevent this from happening?
As individuals, how should we manage our investments to minimize Trump's impacts on our jobs and income?

During UW ETIC's brand new chapter, we will help you understand what exactly the "Trump Economy" means to all of us.

UW ETIC Club (Economic trends, Investments, and Career) Spring 2017 Executive Application now closes on May 7!
Being the first of its kind to hit the University of Waterloo, UW ETIC is a club focused on analyzing the reasons behind the topical economic trends and quantifying their impacts on different markets.

Through the Real Estate Season last year, our executive members were engaged in close discussions with guest speakers from a variety of backgrounds, including Canada Bankers Association, Mortgage Professionals Canada, BILD Association, and Toronto City Council. Moreover, we have also conducted a housing market analysis report, which was recently brought to the Minister of Finance's attention by the Prime Minister Justin Trudeau.

As we are hosting a brand new topic about Trump's policies and the political instability in Europe, we are looking for dedicated individuals to join our team this term, and together we will discover about the corresponding investing strategies under such upheaval markets.

If you are one of those people who are sometimes "overly passionate" about economics, analytics, and investing strategies, this is definitely a great chance for you to speak up, connect, and add value that goes beyond a line on a resume!!

(As part of the application process, please also send your resume to [email protected] by 11:59 PM, May 7th)
