The role of the VSC is to encourage people to run for municipal office.

These candidates have planned their campaigns, often for a year or
more, at significant expense of time and finances. They have marshalled
and inspired teams of volunteers. And they have withstood weeks of
questions meant to probe, meant to incite, meant to distract, and meant
to humiliate.

We suspect they are all true believers. There's no other reward
equivalent to this trouble. Other jobs offer more money and more power,
for fewer skills and with less hassle.

Vote today. It only encourages them.

Regional Chair town-hall turnout was disheartening. If a tough question drops in a debate and nobody hears the answer, does it make a mandate?

Tomorrow night, the main event. Mayoral town-hall redux. Find the defects in your prefects, the griefs in your reeves, the "urgs" in your burghers. Be thorough for your borough, and say you roared for your ward. WMRC Hauser Haus, 7-9pm.

10/20/2010

Public School Trustee candidates' town hall wrapped up with differences on experience, agreement on funding. Learned a little too late that this may have been the only event to quiz trustee candidates.

Tomorrow, Regional Chair candidates Milligan and Seiling square off. 99 Regina in Waterloo, 7-9pm.

10/18/2010

Town-hall meeting for Public School Board Trustee Candidates. There are six candidates: Chagger, Farooqi, Fife, Hendry, Schell, Woodcock.

In response to questions, voters will need to choose (up to) three candidates, and cannot vote more than once for a candidate. Trustees represent Waterloo and Twp. of Wilmot.

October 19th, 7-9pm, Room 508, Regional Health Services Building, 99 Regina St., Waterloo.

10/08/2010

Regional Councillor candidates' townhall was sparsely attended; strange considering one idea expressed, that Regional Council attends to $1.1billion, and has part-time councillors.

We're back on the 19th with Public School Trustee candidates; we'll issue a reminder the day before. Also, the 20th sees Regional Chair candidates square off, and the main event, the Mayoral rematch, takes place on the 21st.

10/07/2010

Ward 7 meeting had some fireworks over LRT, traffic calming, lots of rebuttals but no clear winner. Next up: Regional Council candidates. Three people vying for two seats: who will be voted off the roundabout island? Adult Recreation Centre, 185 King South at Allen, 7-9pm.
