If you've ever been told to wait and see, this one's for you.

May is Better Speech and Hearing Month, and we put together a blog on the myths that quietly delay families from getting support. Not to create panic, just to give you better information than the parent groups at midnight.

Communication doesn’t develop all at once, it builds over time through everyday moments, play, and connection. ❤

If something’s been on your mind or you’re wondering whether your child is on track, you don’t have to figure it out alone.

Between 18–36 months, communication really starts to take off. You’ll often see more words, more intent, and those early back-and-forth interactions starting to click.

It’s also a stage where differences can become more noticeable, some toddlers are chatting away, while others are still building those early foundations in their own way.

If you’ve been wondering about your child’s communication - how they’re expressing themselves, understanding language, or connecting with others - it’s okay to trust that instinct.

If you know, you know. 😉

No two days in paediatrics ever look the same. You walk in with a plan… and then real life shows up immediately.

We bring the joy to build connection.

It’s not neat, it’s not linear, and it definitely doesn’t fit into a checklist.

But somehow, in the middle of all of it, the meaningful stuff happens.

Small wins. Real connection. Moments that actually matter!

To everyone doing this work in clinics, schools, homes, and communities, you get it.

And to our corporate friends… yes, we worked all day. Just in a way that’s hard to explain on paper. 📝

The 12–18 month stage is often where communication begins to shift from mostly gestures and sounds into those first meaningful words and intentional ways of getting needs met.

You might notice your toddler starting to point more, respond to familiar words, imitate sounds, and use a few early words alongside gestures. This is also a key time for building shared attention - those moments where you’re both focused on the same thing.

Every child develops at their own pace, but this stage can give helpful clues about how communication is starting to take shape.
