The Voices Empower Walk organized by Women's Crisis Services of Waterloo Region in City of Waterloo brought our community together today. Funds raised support Anselma House and Haven House — essential services for those affected by intimate partner violence in our region.

Intimate Partner Violence is an epidemic. Every 6 days, a woman is killed. Grateful to the organizers and everyone who showed up to support this work. 💜

Last week I had the chance to attend two meaningful community events in the City of Waterloo — the Region of Waterloo Anti-Hate Campaign Kickoff at the Erb West Community Centre and the Waterloo Wayside Open House.

Both highlight the strength of our community — standing together against hate and supporting one another through connection, compassion, and care.

Thank you to everyone involved for the important work you do in making Waterloo a more inclusive and supportive community. 💛

City of Waterloo was alive with music and energy last night! 🌈🎶

Huge thanks to One Big Gay Disco DJ and Spectrum WR for pulling together an incredible dance party in Uptown Waterloo at the Public Square.

It was a beautiful reminder of the power of community, joy, and showing up for one another. ❤️

Saturday night, we recognized and celebrated the leadership, compassion, and community impact of John Neufeld. For 16 years, John has been a dedicated leader whose own story of belonging has guided his work to bring a sense of connection and care to our most vulnerable community members.

Thank you, John, for all you’ve done for Waterloo Region and House of Friendship. We wish you every success in your next chapter!

I was honoured to attend the closing of the Migration Film Festival last Friday for the screening of "A Dream Called Khushi" in City of Kitchener.

The film tells the remarkable story of Rahima Khushi and her determination to pursue an education while stateless and growing up in a Bangladeshi refugee camp.

I’m privileged to know Rahima now that she lives in Canada and is pursuing her university education. She is an inspiration and a true leader—both within the Rohingya community and across our Region.

Thank you to Waterloo Region Immigration Partnership for hosting such a moving event. And to Rishabh Raj Jain for his powerful film.

Honoured to join the University of Waterloo and Waterloo community for the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation.

Witnessed the powerful transfer of the eagle staff and walked Ring Road, reflecting on the deep, lasting impacts of residential schools on Indigenous communities.

Grateful to be present and to reflect with the City of Waterloo community as we continue this important journey together.
