How's everyone's teaching week coming along? As we get closer to the end of the first semester, we decided to share a moments from our recent lessons lessons 😇

After hiring 1,000+ ESL teachers, I've learned one thing:

Most language schools are hiring backwards.
They focus on credentials first. Experience second. Personality last.
It should be the opposite.

Here's what I look for now (in this order):
1. Energy & Adaptability Can they read a room? Do they genuinely enjoy teaching? A teacher with average credentials but great energy will outperform a qualified bore every time.
2. Cultural Fit Do they align with your school's values? One toxic teacher can destroy team morale. I've learned this the hard way.
3. THEN Credentials Yes, qualifications matter - but they're the baseline, not the deciding factor.

The result? Lower turnover. Happier students. Stronger retention.
At Simply English, our best teachers weren't always the most experienced on paper.

They were the ones who showed up with curiosity, humility, and genuine passion for the work.
