Visual Supports at Home: Small Changes, Big Impact!
Visual supports are a simple but powerful way to help children understand expectations, build independence, and feel more confident throughout their day.
Whether it’s a visual schedule, a First/Then board, a checklist, or a feelings chart, visuals can:
✨ Reduce frustration and anxiety
✨ Make routines more predictable
✨ Encourage independence
✨ Support communication and emotional regulation
The best part? You don’t need expensive materials! Photos, drawings, printed icons, sticky notes, or even hand-drawn pictures can make a meaningful difference.
Consistency is key—when visuals are used regularly, they become a reliable tool that helps children navigate their day with greater success.
💛 At RISE Behaviour Services, we believe that small supports can create big opportunities for learning, confidence, and connection.

🌈 Pride Month at RISE 🌈
This Pride Month, we celebrate the strength, resilience, and uniqueness of the LGBTQIA2S+ community.
At RISE, we recognize that every person’s identity, neurotype, and lived experience deserve to be respected, affirmed, and celebrated. We are committed to creating a space where individuals can show up as their authentic selves—without masking, judgment, or barriers.
We know that many members of the LGBTQIA2S+ community are also neurodivergent, and we honour the beautiful diversity that exists within our community.
✨ You belong.
✨ You are valued.
✨ You are enough—exactly as you are.
Happy Pride Month from all of us at RISE.

🧠✨ Proactive Strategies✨🧠
When we think ahead, we can reduce anxiety, and set kids up for success! 🙌
Here are a few proactive strategies that can make a big difference in daily routines for autistic children:
👀 Visual Supports – Schedules, choice boards, and timers help children know what to expect and what’s expected from them.
⏳ Predictability & Routines – Consistent routines give a sense of safety. Transitions are smoother when kids know what’s coming next.
🧸 Sensory-Friendly Spaces – Create calm areas where kids can self-regulate. Think cozy corners, noise-canceling headphones, or fidget tools.
💬 Clear Communication – Use short, concrete language or visual cues. Give time to process before expecting a response.
🤝 Teach Before the Storm – Practice skills (like asking for a break) when the child is calm. Don’t wait for a crisis to teach coping strategies.
❤️ Connection First – Build trust and connection through play and presence. Kids learn best when they feel safe and understood.
✨ Small changes. Big impact. Be proactive, not reactive!
