Pick-me-up Painted Rocks

Western Canadian artist who paints rocks and hides them for others to find. Meant to surprise and delight. Keep, re-hide or give away.

If you found one of these painted rocks, you did not find it...it found YOU!

May you be blessed by this surprise. Keep, give away or re-hide. The choice is yours.

I began by being barely able to make a simple cartoon image, but I have progressed. Van Gogh is a favourite artist of many, so I thought why not give the sultry master’s style a try. Looked easy enough.

I did not want to copy one of his masterpieces like ”The Starry Night” or his Sunflowers, so I combined the elements into my own rendition.

I soon learned a deep and abiding respect for Van Gogh’s mastery of a paintbrush. Those swirls, those flecks of colours are not happenstance! They are hard to do.

I found I needed great patience and discipline to know when to add a line of color. Chaos soon became a rhythmic form, a coiling river of color hues.

I know I will never do Van Gogh’s art style justice, but I am experiencing such pleasure in trying.

This newest rock has found a new home. A sheathing of protective resin and it will go to the gal who inspired me to try, Jeannette.

Are these guys just the cutest? Yummy mummies. I think I will hide them in October. Also available for purchase. Just ask. The yellowish one and brown one have been SOLD!

Finding rocks to support my obsession. I recruited 2 grandkids and a husband to help. We go to a rock/landscape company on the edge of Edmonton. It is easy to pick the perfect rocks from these massive piles. Smooth, flatish, with round edges.
