Hermann's has been an important live music venue for our local music scene since 1981. Arts on View Society took over running Hermann's in 2019 and we all know the hit that live venues took and continue to take as a result of COVID. Our bluegrass and old time community has enjoyed many events at Hermann's.

Audiences are coming back but the financial hole created by COVID was too difficult to overcome and the Society recently announced Hermann's was going to close. The community of patrons, musicians and other interested parties quickly reached out to the Society asking for a chance to save Hermann's.

So here's your chance to be part of the community supporting live music in Victoria.

On Saturday September 13th, we gathered to celebrate the life and contribution of Eric Day. He was a founder of the Victoria Bluegrass Association, the Sooke River Bluegrass Festival (now Cowichan Valley Bluegrass Festival), the Sooke Legion Jams and a long time director of the Sooke Community Association that looks after the Sooke River Campground.

Eric always encouraged and engaged with new players everywhere, often taking them aside to teach them something new. He was very enthusiastic for this music and spread that enthusiasm to all. His legacy will be measured by his long lasting impact on bluegrass in our region and the many, many people who were influenced by his community building. We will miss him immensely.

A Celebration of Life this past weekend honoured the memory of Eric Day, a founder of the festival and our predecessor event, The Sooke River Bluegrass Festival. Held at our former site at the Sooke River Campground, it featured music and community, as Eric would have wanted.
