I love learning new things and this weekend I learned how to airbrush! Yes, I made this! 🤩 Still pretty amazed with what I created for my first project. I’m especially excited about how this could be combined with my murals and portraits, so many possibilities ahead. Big thanks to Tim Scott (Tim Scott Airbrush) for putting on the class and grateful for all the knowledge he shared.

So very happy to share that my very large mural has been delivered to its new home! We were blessed with the ideal weather conditions for the installation as the mural is situated on an outside deck. It looks amazing on the wall, so vibrant, and so full of life and energy!
Thank you to my client for the incredible commission and to friends and family for their help with getting this delivered and installed. I’m so fortunate to have such amazing people in my life. 🥰

There are 21 different flowers in this mural, can you name them all? 🌺

After five months, I’ve finally completed my latest painting and third commission for this year - a very large and very vibrant floral mural.
This is by far my biggest piece yet, at 4’ wide and over 6’ tall. The brief was for a whimsical floral garden with oversized blooms, bold colours, and a trellis. Flowers were selected by the client, arrangement and colours by the artist.
Painted on plywood with Golden Fluid Acrylic Paint, the mural has just finished curing for two weeks after being varnished and will be installed in its final home soon. I can’t wait to see it in place!

Getting the first layers of primer applied on my latest project, a VERY large floral mural. This one will be my biggest painting yet at four feet wide and six and a half feet tall!! It didn’t fit on any of my easels so it’s been carefully placed against a sturdy armoire in my studio as an impromptu workspace!

So great to see both signs installed in their new location! The farm regularly hosts weddings and I’ve been told that this has become a popular selfie spot. Thank you to my client for sharing this with me! 😊🌻

The current view of my studio with four of my paintings in progress, and finished ones in the background.
I found an easel at the ReStore for an amazing price, and the cool thing is it’s exactly like the one I already have! Both easels have two supports so I can have four paintings on the go. This works well for the way I paint, using many layers there’s a lot of drying time!

Hand painted recessed letters by Ellen Coburn, Acrylic on wood, 9”x 20”
I was asked to hand paint the letters black so they would be more visible (a router and template were used to carve the letters into the wood). After sanding the inside of each letter, I covered the surface with painters tape and carefully cut away to create precise masking. I applied primer, several coats of black acrylic paint, and a thin line of gold paint to highlight each letter. I used a satin spray varnish to finish and really love how the wood grain turned out.
This sign is the partner for the marigold mural and will welcome visitors and guests to the property.

Mural commission by Ellen Coburn, Acrylic on wood panel, 18”x52”
My painting of marigolds surrounded by lush green fields, rolling hills, and blue skies, inspired by our local topography. This mural will welcome visitors and guests at the entrance to the property, along with the farm sign (see other post). Sketch on wood, under painting, layers for depth, spray varnish.

Portrait commission by Ellen Coburn
Acrylic on canvas, 12”x16”
My painting of a friend’s mom, a memorial tribute inspired by his favourite photo. This portrait took me 60 hours to complete. I started with a pencil sketch directly on the canvas, blocked out the main shapes and values with an under painting, and then applied many thin layers of glaze to create the depth. Protected with satin varnish, painted sides.
