B.C. redrawing EV sales mandate, scraps goal of 100% by 2035, leaves rebates to feds | CBC News 11/24/2025

Energy Minister Adrian Dix is shifting goal-setting, cash incentives and blame for high electric-vehicle prices to Ottawa. Dix said the 100-per-cent sales goal, and a 90-per-cent target for 2030 were no longer "realistic," and the government saw rebates "as a federal responsibility."

And, where do we go from here? Without subsidies and tax credits to help stimulate market demand, it makes it easier for the EV supply chain to fall by the waist side. The future is bright, but also hazy.

B.C. redrawing EV sales mandate, scraps goal of 100% by 2035, leaves rebates to feds | CBC News British Columbia has abandoned a rebate program for electric vehicles that it paused six months ago and is scrapping a mandate that every new vehicle sold in the province must be zero-emission by 2035.

Used EVs outpace gas vehicles as high prices slow overall market in Q3, Edmunds reports 11/10/2025

According to a recent Edmunds report, the average transaction price (ATP) for 3-year-old vehicles rose to $31,067 in Q3, up 5% from $29,578 a year earlier, while the average number of days a vehicle sat on a dealer lot before selling increased to 41, marking the slowest third-quarter pace since 2017. These longer lot times reflect a more selective buyer base weighing high used-vehicle prices against new-car incentives.

For now, this suggests that EVs are in demand, just not for their current resale price. Interesting to note. I wonder how this might change when Chinese EVs enter and flood the market!

Used EVs outpace gas vehicles as high prices slow overall market in Q3, Edmunds reports As affordability pressures slow the pace of used vehicle sales, EVs are bucking the trend, selling faster than any other powertrain in Q3.

Canada announces first critical minerals projects under G7 partnership - National | Globalnews.ca 11/03/2025

In late October 2025, Canada announced the first round of projects under a G7 critical minerals production alliance envisioned as a counterweight to China’s dominance in the sector. The 25 initiatives include purchase agreements for a Quebec graphite mine and investments to scale up a rare earth elements refinery in Ontario.

Is Canada in the race for an EV supply chain or is it out? One minute, there's investments in building vehicles, which has fizzled out - and, the next minute, there's investments in mining...

Can't wait to see Budget 2025/26!

GOLDBERG: On China and tariffs, Kinew is right 10/26/2025

Manitoba Premier Wab Kinew has finally gotten off the bench and is calling on the federal government to drop its tariffs on Chinese electric vehicles. He recently shared that “Canada’s trade policy must balance long term industrial goals and national security with immediate economic realities as well as the national responsibility to grow every region of Canada’s economy”. “While protecting our automotive sector is important, the current approach has created a two-front trade war that disproportionately impacts Western Canada.”

Canada's being attacked by both China and the United States, and still manages to lose.

Stellantis will face MP study over contracts after Jeep production move | Globalnews.ca 10/22/2025

"The Conservatives pushed for the study after Stellantis last week said it would be moving planned production of its Jeep Compass from its plant in Brampton, Ont., to Illinois, threatening 3,000 workers at the Canadian facility."

It's one thing for Canada to abandon its short-lived ambition for building EV and its EV supply chain. However, now car companies are considering whether it makes sense to build cars in Canada at all. These are dark times for our financial stability.

Tesla’s New Budget Models Are Here—Are the Savings Worth the Sacrifices? 10/12/2025

The Tesla Model 3 and Y Standard's have arrived. Priced in USD, they're about $5,000 cheaper than their previous based model. A couple of things have changed with respect to trim, lights, seats, etc., but it's not dramatically different.

Strange to say, but given Elon Musk's new pay package, is this the best that he can do? Can't wait to see what's in store next for Tesla - literally!

Tesla’s New Budget Models Are Here—Are the Savings Worth the Sacrifices? Turns out that Tesla didn’t just create a cheaper Model Y, it added a cheaper Model 3 to go with it.

B.C.'s EV mandates are 'tough targets' as sales slow down 10/05/2025

A Statistics Canada report in January said 20.7 per cent of new vehicles sold in B.C. in 2024 were electric. That rate suggests the province will fall short of its target of 26 per cent in 2026. It looks like BC's Zero-Emissions Vehicles Act will be no more.

Auto Industry Is Flashing a Warning Sign on U.S. Economy 09/26/2025

"High vehicle prices and high interest rates have weighed on shoppers who are already facing high food prices and feeling less secure in their jobs. New vehicle prices are up 2.9% since last year, to an average of $45,795 in September, while manufacturer-funded incentives that help shoppers afford vehicles at dealerships are roughly flat, according to J.D. Power."

Between ICEs and EVs, it's unclear who's going to be able to choose what. With both options front and center - it looks like fossil fuels over carbon emissions reductions.

Auto Industry Is Flashing a Warning Sign on U.S. Economy CarMax, the biggest seller of used cars, said that sales and profit plunged in the latest quarter. Its shares closed down 20%.

EV Makers Line Up at Europe's Only Rare-Earths Magnets Site 09/20/2025

Ottawa considering scrapping tariffs on Chinese electric vehicles 09/13/2025

"Agriculture Minister Heath MacDonald said Tuesday a decision to scrap or ease these tariffs is under review, but would include consideration of the impacts on other sectors, and that China had not yet communicated what exactly it wants."

And, just as this commentator spectated, here we go. Looking forward to what comes out of this.

Many EV owners say they’re undeterred after the federal government’s mandate pause 09/07/2025

In reaction towards the federal government's decision to effectively pause EV mandates - some EV owners have said “You quickly realize how stupid it is to burn $20 in gas every day to get somewhere.”

I think this sentiment perfectly encapsulates how EV owners feel in this current climate. It's not about whether we need more EVs or not, but EV owners are content with the vehicles they own. On a grander scheme, where to from here? If Canada is no longer interested in championing environmental causes, then where do we put our focus?

Many EV owners say they’re undeterred after the federal government’s mandate pause Not much changed immediately for electric vehicle drivers across Canada after the federal government announced a step back from its EV policy. But many drivers fear infrastructural growth and improved public charging stations will slow in the coming years.

Feds give B.C. $22.7 million to build 480 EV chargers in ‘high-demand areas’ | Globalnews.ca 08/29/2025

Tim Horton's announced that it plans to install fast electric vehicle (EV) chargers at 100 of its restaurants, with the first one already open to the public at a Regina location.

Considering Tim Horton's is located near mall locations, it would make sense to think that EV chargers would already be on premises. Let's see how this goes!
