Technically, TODAY (May 26) is our 5 year bday…

Behold, a scroll down memory lane, starting with getting the keys to a very empty storefront (Nov 1, 2920), through to our first few days in May 2021.

I’m still sad about the end of our Wall of Baguettes and the “FRESH CARBS” sign, but thrilled with how everything else has changed since the launch.

Here’s to another 5 years of whimsy, activism and SNACKS! 🥹🇵🇸❤️🍫🏳️‍🌈🐌

Today is bittersweet…

After almost 5 years of basically running the show, .pilot is leaving the snack nest and spreading her wings (taking on a very exciting new role at the )!

Holly came on board as a weekend Snack Slinger back in the summer of 2021, and by the start of 2023, she became our full-time Store Manager.

She’s responsible for 99% of the creative endeavours at the shop; from merchandising marvels (not easy when space is limited but your boss keeps ordering new things) to handcrafting life-size window displays (taking my unhinged ideas and making them a reality).

She’s also the brains (and organization) behind events like Snack Crawl and our annual Indigenous Makers Market, the problem solver behind the scenes (annual HVAC leaks 😅), the hirer/trainer/manager of team members, the liaison with all 500+ of our vendors, the person who greets you 4 days of the week and makes this little shop feel like a home.

I forgot to mention that she basically kept everything going (during a recession 😅) while I had a baby! Yes, I’ve included a photo of their first meeting 🥹

She’s the Jacob Marley to my Ebenezer Scrooge (literally and figuratively), and I’m so grateful that she’s been part of my life and the shop’s story.

Now, one thing about Holly is that she doesn’t hog or even like the limelight - she’s typically the director of our shop content - BUT I managed to dig up some *memorable moments that she will hopefully not hate to see posted 😅

It’s been almost 2 years since we’ve expanded our team, but the time has come!

Details:

PT sales position, 3 days* (24hr)/week starting at $22hr.

We’re looking for someone with 2+ years of retail and/or customer-facing key holder experience, who is comfortable working solo and genuinely enjoys spending time with a wide variety of snack-seekers.

This person must also be in alignment with our shop values (hopefully our IG feed makes those apparent) 🏳️‍⚧️❤️🇵🇸❤️🏳️‍🌈

While most of our items are pretty lightweight, there is some physicality and heavy lifting involved.

I’m terrible at keeping secrets, but I somehow managed to for a good 9 months!

I am thrilled to share that we’re going to be expanding the Belle experience with a new storefront and a new customer base: tiny snackers!

The new space is probably a good 3 months out from opening (permits take forever), but here’s a sneak peek at some of the things you’ll find in store:

🍼 A crawl up baby bar, with Belle staples, like and (BYI bottle or sippy cup).

🍫 Pint sized snacks, like Tom Bumbles and .se Swedish fish (still figuring out how to make these small enough to not be choking hazards).

🧸 Toys for tiny activists (My First Protest Sign, F*CK ICE activity cube, Snail World crinkle book etc)

And finally ….

🧷 Our very own Baby Belle merch: cloth diapers, onesies, soother stash boxes etc.
