I cried on Saturday.
It was not pretty.
Up until that happened, I was on edge, short and overall irritable.

The crying happened when I laid it all out on the table, when I gave words to what was bringing me down.
When I stopped keeping it all inside and allowed it to be expressed and felt.

Crying is a natural emotional response that can occur in response to a variety of stimuli, including sadness, frustration, anger, and joy. Allowing ourselves to cry can have both physical and emotional benefits.

Physically, crying can help to release tension and stress from the body. It can also help to flush out toxins from the body, reduce inflammation, and provide relief from physical pain. Crying can also help to regulate our breathing and heart rate, which can have a calming effect on the body.

Emotionally, crying can help to release pent-up emotions and provide a sense of catharsis. It can help us to process and cope with difficult emotions, such as grief, loss, and disappointment. Crying can also help to improve our mood and increase feelings of well-being.

In addition, crying can also help to build and strengthen relationships. When we allow ourselves to cry in the presence of others, it can help to create a sense of empathy and connection, and can deepen our relationships with others.

Overall, allowing ourselves to cry can be a healthy and important part of emotional processing and can have numerous benefits for our physical and emotional well-being.

It's important to recognize that being a mother is a tough and demanding job, and it's normal to feel overwhelmed or doubt yourself at times.

I have been in that place where I felt completely overwhelmed by all the things I was supposed to do or have in place, to measure up to the moms I have met. In fact, there is nothing like moving countries to make you feel like you know absolutely nothing about anything, becasue everything is just so different.

The Motherhood Study conducted by the American Psychological Association, looked at the experiences of mothers in the United States. This study found that mothers experience high levels of stress and are more likely to report symptoms of depression and anxiety than non-mothers.

Losing belief in oneself can have a significant impact on a mother's mental health and wellbeing. When a mother starts to doubt her abilities and value as a parent, she may experience feelings of guilt, shame, and inadequacy, which can lead to anxiety, depression, and other mental health issues.

In some cases, a mother may develop postpartum depression, a condition that affects up to 1 in 7 new mothers, which can cause feelings of sadness, hopelessness, and worthlessness. This condition can make it difficult for a mother to bond with her baby, and it can interfere with her ability to provide the care and attention that her child needs.

Additionally, losing belief in oneself can also impact a mother's physical health, as stress and negative emotions can weaken the immune system and increase the risk of developing chronic illnesses.

It's important for mothers to seek support when they are struggling with self-doubt and other mental health issues. This may include talking to a healthcare provider, seeking counseling or therapy, or joining a support group for mothers. With the right support, a mother can regain her confidence and rebuild her mental health and wellbeing.

Putting Yourself First: How Moms Can Overcome Self-Sabotage and Make Self-Care a Priority

There are several ways in which moms may self-sabotage their self-care. Here are some common ones:

1️⃣Putting others first: Moms often put the needs of their children, partner, and family before their own needs. While this is admirable, it can lead to neglecting self-care, which can cause burnout and exhaustion.

2️⃣Feeling guilty: Moms may feel guilty for taking time for themselves or spending money on self-care activities. They may also feel guilty for not being able to do everything perfectly.

3️⃣Lack of time: Moms are often busy with their children, work, and other responsibilities, which can make it difficult to find time for self-care activities. This can lead to neglecting self-care altogether.

4️⃣Perfectionism: Moms may feel that they need to do everything perfectly, including self-care. This can lead to setting unrealistic expectations and feeling like a failure if they cannot meet them.

4️⃣Not asking for help: Moms may feel like they need to do everything themselves and not ask for help, which can lead to feeling overwhelmed and neglecting self-care.

To overcome self-sabotage, moms can start by prioritizing their self-care and setting aside time for it.
They can also challenge their negative thoughts and beliefs about self-care and seek support from friends, family, a life coach or a therapist.
Finally, they can practice self-compassion and remind themselves that taking care of themselves is important for their own well-being and for the well-being of their family.

“It’s not whether you “feel” like putting in the work, but whether or not you do it regardless.”
Brianna Wiest, The Mountain Is You: Transforming Self-Sabotage Into Self-Mastery

Mel Robbins talks about morning routine in of of her latest podcast episodes. In there, she shares that mothers find it is so easy to get up early IF they need to help someone in the family to the airport or something similar. However, getting up early for themselves is a completely different story.

Does that sound familiar?

Why is it that we love to avoid doing the things we know are important?

Behaviour is a symptom.
In order to understand the behaviour, you need to dive into the experience. Often this experience is so automated, you don't even know it's happening anymore. In fact, you've become so good at it, there is no more thinking involved. It is simply just part of who you are and what you do.

Did you know that I offer a FREE chemistry session?
45 minutes dedicated just to you.
What if we got to the bottom of why you are avoiding that one important thing. Don't you want that?

What is self-love really?

I was listening to a podcast whilst doing the school run and one of the questions the podcatser asked the guest speaker stood out. She asked: What self care practices do you have in place?

My ears tuned in closely, but the answer was a bit disappointing. She answered by saying: "I go for a massage once a month."

The reason I found this disappointing, was becasue I was looking for a more meaningful practice. In fact, the podcaster even tried to ask the question a few times to see if there was not something else the guest wanted to add.

Don't get me wrong, I go for massages. I LOVE them! They help me destress and relax. In fact, they have been key in pain relief over the last two years.

However, there is a connection between tight muscles and the habitual ways of thinking and being.

JUST going for the massage is NOT enough.

That is why I love this quote from the book. It goes beyond. It talks to the reality of understanding that you need to stop allowing yourself to dance around and avoid the things you know you need to change.

Change is not easy.
Change sometimes require you to ask for help.

Let me HELP YOU bring about change.

“Healing means to make WHOLE and to ACCEPT all parts of me - not just the parts I like, but ALL of me”
This here is probably the toughest journey to venture on, accepting who you are right here, right now.
I’m reading The Mountain is You by Brianna West. In there she points out how important this is.
Not the version of you that you are working towards.
Not the version of you that you want to change.
You, as you are, right here, right now.
How are you doing with this?
Are you able love all parts of you? Even if you do not like some parts of you, you can still love all of you and grow in empathy towards self.

Have you ever written yourself a letter?

I am doing that right now and wanted to share one specific insight since I started writing it.

Looking back at 2021 I review the pieces of information I have: diary, personal calendar, family calendar, photos, notes, pieces of paper. It is very clear to me that the year started off rather heavy. And with the word: heavy, I mean to say that I was struggling with maintaining a perspective that could see opportunity and progress and fun. I was facing failure and shortcomings square in the face and it was tough.

As I am reviewing this and questioning how I felt during those months, I feel ashamed.
I wonder what did I do with that time?
I see the efforts and attempts to move forward, but I also see that this was a time in just wanted to hide.

Now, if you knew me before, you would know that I was the type of person who could get stuff done. You know the saying: if you want something done, give it to a busy person. Well, that was me. I got stuff done.

THIS was not the case early 2021.

As I read my journal entries, I see a shift mid-year.
What caused it? I had found my way back to the group of people who inspire me. Coaches who are living examples of what it is like to pursue a dream. Each on their own path, making mistakes and learning along the way. Allowing me see my mistakes in the same way.

Six months later and a new year has just begun.
I am so grateful that I am looking back with a new perspective
I am grateful for this community.
I am so grateful for the safe space I have found.
I am grateful knowing I can be vulnerable and continue my learning.

What about you? Feeling ashamed for where you are at?
Looking for a safe space where you can be vulnerable and learn more about yourself?

I can help you.
DM me for more details.

PS. This letter to myself is a practice that was introduced to me by the wonderful The Spiritual Room.Co in 2020. It's been a ritual I continue to practice annually and I cannot recommend this practice enough.
If you're curious, send me a dm so I can tell you more!

I had the fantastic privileged to share my learning with those I rely on immensely: OUR TEACHERS!!
Oh how they have sowed and continue to sow into my children's lives in many shapes and forms.

The opportunity was both
1️⃣ a chance to learn more about the experiences and challenges faced by educators AND
2️⃣ and opportunity to share how what I have learned can help educators manage their mental health.

I am super grateful to the individuals who took the time to help me by giving input on their experience.
Thank you to the team for the opportunity to collaborate on this subject.

Part of how I lived life before, entailed a lot of denial of what really is.
I ignored my own experience and sensations, which over time resulted in a numbing. I stopped feeling and became really good at suppressing.
Over the last two years with stress of immigration and Covid, I gained weight and experienced more peri menopause symptoms.
Through this process I became aware of the clothing I choose and just how uncomfortable I actually was, for the sake of fitting a specific look.
I gave myself permission to feel fat, to feel older, to feel tired, to feel irritated, to feel like I had no value.
The beauty of allowing yourself to feel your actual experience, is that it comes with acceptance for what is and more importantly, acknowledging your physical self instead of denying it.
Which opened up a little self compassion and acceptance and love.
As I practiced that and brought more awareness to how I view me, I was able to make small incremental changes towards more self love, compassion and self friendship.
Being kind to me and loving myself where I am now is not always easy. However, the fruits of that practice is like gold for my soul.
And when my love for me increases, so does my love and compassion increase for those around me.
What has your journey towards loving yourself been like?
Do you watch your kids have all the fun?
Are you hiding indoors because you just do not want to be seen?
Are you wearing clothes that are just not comfortable anymore?
Would you like to create a practice of self love and compassion?
DM me! Beauty and radiance from within is absolutely available to you.
Much love from me to you.
