Project Zero
Based at Point Grey Secondary, Project Zero advocates for issues within the community through youth-led projects and initiatives.
Last Friday, we launched a COVID-19 relief fund to fundraise for our frontline healthcare staff at the UBC hospital. This week, we‘ve reached over $400 in donations. Thank you to the students, alumni, teachers, parents, and small businesses who‘ve donated ❤️

As we look forward to a return to normal life, let’s remember to ask ourselves which parts of that “normal” are worth returning to and which part are best left behind. Earth day may be ending in just a few hours but our conversations don't have to stop there. See what sustainability professionals Kai and Stephen at UBC have to say at https://news.ubc.ca/2020/04/21/saving-the-planet-in-the-midst-of-a-pandemic/

Last day to order a carol gram is tomorrow! Don’t miss this once-in-a-year opportunity to send a small gift 🎁 to your friends before the break. DM us or reach out to a club rep to order. Grams include a homemade holiday card and a Christmas carol (song choices: Santa Claus is Coming to Town, Joy to the World, Jingle Bell Rock, and Frosty the Snowman).
So what’s next? Why donate?
Clothes that you may never wear again - clothes that you don’t even remember owning - can make all the difference for someone else, somewhere else. By repurposing unwanted clothing and offering a more eco-friendly alternative to throwing away unworn clothes, our hope is to support at-risk youth at the Vancouver Covenant House this winter and to further the sustainability conversation at the school. Help us make this happen. All donations will be accepted until next Wed, Dec 18th.

Got a hand-me-down that you’ve never liked? Sweaters that no longer fit? Clothes that you just don’t wear anymore? Donate it! Project Zero will be collecting clothing donations for the next two weeks before Winter Break. All donations will be going toward Covenant House to support at-risk youth through the cold winter months ahead.

It’s been a hell of a ride with these guys. Here’s to many more years to come.

Whether it’s the term paper you have due at the end of the month, the countless pages of notes you still need to catch up on, or the APs and final exams you need to cram for, remember to take a deep breath, go on a walk, and sleep if you have to. It may be the busiest time of the year, but it‘ll pass. Don’t let the small things happening now make you lose sight of the bigger picture

To wrap up the ‘18-19 Project Zero year, it’s an honor to present to you the leaders of our external Poverty Outreach Program. Established in the winter of 2018, Poverty Outreach started as a small scale event with a team of 10 volunteers to distribute holiday care packages around Downtown Eastside. From then on, this single-time event has evolved into an ongoing program, where iterations of our first Winter Outreach Run have become a tradition and a source of inspiration for the team. Through each run, we are reminded that real change cannot be achieved through one outreach campaign and that homelessness cannot be solved through the mere act of giving out socks or hot meals. Though our runs may be deemed futile, they are an emblematic gesture that we do care, and that we do want to help. Whether it’s 1 or 100 people reached, our members are ready to combat the dangerous apathy surrounding poverty.

Sometimes it only takes actions as small as choosing to use a reusable coffee mug, eating in instead of taking-out, and putting waste in its rightful place that ends up inspiring change on a larger scale. You may not think much of it, but it all adds up. How will you help the Earth this Monday, and in the 365 days that follow?
