2 were airlifted from the park and ten were taken to hospital by ambulance from Cultus Lake Waterpark after this accident occurred shortly after 11am today. Sending thoughts to everyone affected. 😞💔

I met some new friends and caught up with an old one at my book signing at Black Bond Books in South Surrey today! Raminder and his kids, my old pal Spike, and Arlene. Arlene lives nearby and has been known to buy out the supply of my Now You Know BC Almanac Issue 1 from this location and give it to all of her friends and neighbours. So awesome. Thanks to everyone who showed up! ❤️📚

Maybe this is best suited for a LinkedIn post, but I recently offered my insights and some advice to journalists on a panel I was invited to be on.
“The New Vanguard: Creators, Influencers, and the Local Ecosystem” was part of the Future of Journalism summit at UBC and it featured Tanya Talaga (whom I was already a fan of) and Anita Li from The Green Line.
The news industry is one that I hacked my way into as an online publisher then newspaper Editor In Chief, and which I mostly left in 2024 when I quit my post at Vancouver Is Awesome in order to mostly make videos for you full time.
I still use the journalism chops that I honed along the way though, and am delighted to be able to do this work, yet I’m a bit frightened at how easy it is for people to become relevant here, not by adhering to any sort of code of honesty nor decency, but by taking bits of news, chopping it up and presenting it as fact, when it’s 5% fact with the remaining 95% being their opinions or the truth that they believe to be true, regardless of having reliable sources or not.
Anyway, that it. Thanks to the Canadian Journalism Foundation for having me, and good luck to everyone out there in this brave new world of… information.
